Specifications aside, when watching DVDs, will I notice a "big" difference between a $4,000 DLP projector like the InFocus ScreenPlay 5700 as compared to a $1,000 LCD projector like the Toshiba ET1?

I have a 12'x12' dark room.

And, equally potentially obnoxious, the rainbow twitter of the single-chip DLP.

Unfortunately, it seems that 3-chip DLPs remain at starting in the $12k-$15k.

Yes there will be, especially because the Toshiba is not a good projector even in that price range.

At 1k you should be looking at the infocus X1, benq 6100, and the sanyo z1.

The 5700 is a nice projector but at that price i'd go for an optoma h56 or nec ht1000

3-chippers eliminate the need for a color wheel, but again you're looking at spending *well* beyond 10k for that.

the InFocus 5700 is certainly not a 3-chipper.

I've been doing research alot recently, especially the NEC LT240K and no one has ever mentioned seeing a rainbow with that projector. Colors are beautiful and vibrant with a DLP projector.
I think DLP projectors get a bad rap probably because of the recurring rainbow problem with the X1.
I have a two year old model NEC LCD projector the build quality is excellent. You won't read about any "dust blobs" with a NEC projector as well.
