I'd like to mention that over at The Digital Bits we have posted a retrospective article on "The Bad News Bears" to, among other reasons, draw attention to the fact the movie has not yet been given a Blu-ray release (at least in the United States). I hope you'll consider taking a look at the...
I’ve been asked to chime in, and so here’s my two cents….
Trade reports from 1957 stated “Raintree County” was released in 35mm, and the promotional material for the film included only a process credit (“Filmed in MGM Camera 65”) rather than something specific to presentation. Plus, the...
Given all of the recent chatter here about “My Fair Lady,” I suppose I ought to pass along the link to the recently-published article done for my film history column at The Digital Bits. The piece includes an overview of its roadshow release and a historian interview segment. Do give the...
Where's the confusion? You're obviously familiar with In70mm.com so why not simply look up "The Untouchables" on the 1987 page of their 70mm blow-up database? The entry there addresses both the film's image and sound formats. (I'm not being snarky; just curious why you wouldn't have checked that...
Guilty. :)
I'm sorry it has taken so long to reply. This exchange is more or less off topic and I already feel as though I'm not welcome on this forum, so I've been hesitant to reply. With the exception of an April Fool's Day joke posting to try to lighten things up, I haven't posted in a long...
Yeah, posting corrections is one of my bad habits. ;) The real reason, if it wasn't apparent, that I suspected you were referring to the Capri in Des Moines is because I'm the guy who put together the roadshow list for "The Sound of Music" which has appeared in a couple of articles and a book...
It did, according to Dolby Labs' records from that era. What's your source(s) it didn't?
It would also be nice if Lord Dalek, whoever he/she is, would chime back in, as requested.
"Patton" played at both theaters, but not at the same time. It first played in the summer of 1970 at the Syosset, and then continued on at the Cinema 150. "Hello, Dolly!" was the debut booking at the Cinema 150, by the way, a few months before "Patton" turned up on Long Island.
No. "Mary Poppins" and "The Sound of Music" both played their first-run Long Island engagements at the Syosset Theater. The Cinema 150 was a different theater and didn't open until 1970.
Need another reason to celebrate the 50th anniversary of "The Sound of Music"? The Digital Bits and I thought so!

And just a heads up...it's a four-pager (two pages devoted to a...
As the co-author of the 70mm blow-up listing at In70mm.com you referenced, and since you believe that resource is "far from the most accurate," how' bout you tell me what resource is more accurate. Better yet, why not point out any of the errors you claim to have found? I'll have them corrected...
There were other titles released in 1992 in Dolby Digital besides the ones you cited above, including:
Aladdin
The Bodyguard
Honey, I Blew Up The Kid
The Mighty Ducks
Pure Country
Toys
Under Siege
I don't want to highjack this particular discussion, but I think this is a better posting spot than starting a fresh discussion. Anyway, I want to let you know that we put up a 50th anniversary "Mary Poppins" article at The Digital Bits the other day. I predict you'll enjoy the article if...
My one-sheet for "The Breakfast Club" lacks a Dolby Stereo logo. The film's end credits, just as Mark-P mentioned, also lacks any references to Dolby. Ditto for newspaper promotion. The VHS, Beta and LaserDisc (and I think even the very first DVD) releases all were mono. The DVD & Blu-ray...
Are you referring to the Plaza? If so, I believe those presentations of A STAR IS BORN and STAR WARS would have been 35mm four-channel Dolby Stereo. Dolby's installation records from that time-frame indicate a Dolby CP50 processor was what was installed there in 1976. The Plaza didn't install...
The decision to release "The Blue Max" as a roadshow was made after the film had been shot.
And, on a similar subject... to coincide with the release of the new Blu-ray from Twilight Time (and CD soundtrack from La-La Land Records), for my film history column at The Digital Bits I've put...
A Blu-ray release of "Sweet Charity" (1969) still hasn't been announced, as far as I know. In the meantime, if you're a fan of the film, we've put up at The Digital Bits a retrospective piece on the film, which includes an overview of its original roadshow release and an interview with a trio of...
Help me out, guys. What is the protocol on something like this?I recently posted a link to a MAD WORLD article written for my film history column over at The Digital Bits. (Some of the folks who have posted comments in this thread participated in the article's interview segment, and there's also...
Those of you who are members of "The Brotherhood of Mad" might enjoy this retrospective article I put together for my film history column at The Digital Bits. It features a detailed list of the original roadshow engagements as well as an interview segment (including HTF contributor Robert A...

I just wanted to mention that The Digital Bits has posted my 45th anniversary retrospective article on "Funny Girl." Please take a peek if you're a fan of the film. There's some tech...
