"Fluttering" noise in right rear speaker

probably SMPTE time code, it's a VERY loud signal, hard to keep out of films a lot of the time... Unless you're mixing on a very large board. It's made to help video and audio sync up. You'll notice a lot of movies and music for movies / from movie sound tracks have this, especially older...

    Picking a Reciever

Most guys here would recommend SVS subs. I think they have one or two in your price range, plus I think there are some used ones floating around here.

    Is this a good system?

She hasn't logged on since 12/4/08. She probably came on here because he wanted to hear "Yes, they're amazing we all have them / wish we could have them". Thats what 1/3 of new members on forums do, the other 1/3 never do anything and the rest care, sometimes. haha.

    Is this a good system?

My friend gave me a BOSE system when i was younger, I was using a KHL "HTiB" speakers and was quite disappointed in them. I never questioned why my friends family gave me a $1,000 system, until I sold it to some poor, poor kid for all I could get out of it. BOSE truly is one of the biggest...

SVS Speakers... I am not happy, can anyone help

Oooh, One last thing to think of Ralph. Tape. It's pretty much gone... Even the biggest bands record in protools, even though tape sounds MUUUUCH better, it's getting phased out. Engineers don't want that. Also more and more music is being mixed "in the box" meaning not using outboard...

SVS Speakers... I am not happy, can anyone help

Well thats because of the limiting as I said. The old CD's ARE a lot quieter, in their own way. One thing I think you're not counting on is you have a nice system... People who DON'T have a nice system, can't really get the sound out of those old LP's and Original recordings, thats why the...

SVS Speakers... I am not happy, can anyone help

Well, one of the reasons for this is younger people like their music louder and louder, and it's much easier getting sound "Loud" with heavy limiting if they can't afford an amp that really pushes some signal. The fundamentals of mixing music hasn't changed much, and a lot of that good old...

Very true But he said in his last post he's open to suggestions for full range speakers so he might go for those SVS towers you suggested.

SVS Speakers... I am not happy, can anyone help

I think he's going through the learning process, it seems that he assumed more speakers = better fuller sound that would "Surround" the room. Which we know isn't quite the case. A nice full range speaker is what will do it for you. The average listener CAN be fooled bye those itty bitty...

SVS Speakers... I am not happy, can anyone help

    4) I think the sound you like is the reflection coming off the ceiling. Do you and your friend have a hard ceiling, or is it a textured ceiling ? Reflecting sound is usually really bright, to some people it may be brittle and "crispy". Not saying you don't take care of your ears, but your age...

SVS Speakers... I am not happy, can anyone help

Greg, lots of good points there. I agree with you. In the studio's I've worked with the best sound I've ever heard was from 2 single Genelec speakers, 10" driver and 1" tweeter, crystal clear and flat, lets you hear everything thats going on, and had EXTREMELY accurate reproduction of lows (IN...

Synching iMac to PS3, How would I do this ?

About the Download speeds, I've got 15 or 20meg Cable and it still takes a long time to download sometimes, even vs my little brothers 10meg DSL... I think location in conjunction to something I'm not aware of (On the ISP's end) is an issue. My brothers house couldn't really get internet so...

Synching iMac to PS3, How would I do this ?

Anybody have this going ? I've read on another forum (Reef keeping forum) that a guy had his mac stream music to his PS3 so he could play though his stereo and get a really nice clean signal (Rather then running a little 1/8" mini jack from the headphone output to my receiver which sounds pretty...

    Should we worry?

Id say no.. It's a visual thing. The average person can't distinguish the difference between an MP3 and a CD, but they could see the difference between VHS and DVD, and they can see the difference between DVD and BD. Visuals aren't hard to notice. Some people don't really notice much at...

SVS Speakers... I am not happy, can anyone help

Alright Urjo, I haven't posted an introduction and I'm a little weary of saying this because my background in sound is not of the HT type and a lot of people here probably have a stronger foundation in sound due to the knowledge they've acquired over the years. However, I am a sound engineer...

    HD Audio ?

Sorry to Hijack this thread a little. But that is something i've been confused with... I keep hearing that you can have a media player decode, and then I read in other places that it doesn't matter if the receiver can't decode the signal... This question is actually one of the reasons I joined...

    Waiting on: Blu-Ray music disks.

Anybody else here waiting for music BD to really start showing up ? There's one or two here and there but a lot of music I listen to doesn't have the budget for HD filming and true high quality sound. (I listen mostly to Death Metal and Tech Metal) Also, I can't find any music BD's really...

Excess Noise with Digital Optical cable.

Well, I took my PS3 over to my dad's house last night and I ran it the same way, HDMI to DVI for video and Digital Optical for Audio, and there was no noise at all. SO yeah, I need a new receiver :/
