Sorry it took me so long to respond - but I've finally taken the time to try some of the steps you all suggested. It looks like Jason was correct in that the video processor of the receiver has somehow died. I'm not sure whether this could be fixed or if it would even be worth it, but for now...

No, good idea - though the audio wouldn't work then. I'll try that. I'm guessing I won't experience the problem since I'm thinking more and more that the receiver is to blame. If the receiver is the problem, I don't know what I could do since I'm out of warranty :(
