Don't know about scene selects, I just go with auto on that.
Don't know about service settings.
I think the picture modes are different from each other but I've not tested it. To test, make all settings the same then switch between cinema, standard etc. and see if there's a difference.
TV speakers are pretty cheap, prone to failure. A cheap HTS would solve the Vizio problem, probably one of those newish "soundbars" would work too, since they're marketed to replace crummy TV sound systems. Just go on line, find a "name" soundbar for sale - Bose probably has one - and you can...
I hooked up a turntable through an Onkyo TX-SR304. The volume is weak, compared to CD player volume for example. Do I need an amplifier? If so, what should I be looking for? I assume something pretty basic.
Thanks!
Having a couple of issues and hope you all can help. I have two Sony 46" LCD's, fairly new, both connected with HDMI directly from Time Warner HDTV DVR's. In turning the TV on, or changing channels, the picture comes on, then goes black for a second, then comes in OK. Would connecting through a...
My 46" Sony LCD, out of warranty, developed horizontal banding. Sony's phone rep advised that my TV had an additional 5 year warranty on the panel because of the banding issue. The following week my new panel was delivered and installed for free.
I feel your pain, having owned two XBRs years ago. I now have three Sony LEDs...good blacks, lousy sound but I run all TV audio through good sound systems. Plasma will give you the best blacks, but I can't control the light in the house, which nixes plasma.
I was referring to initial warranty, though I think extended is a good idea too. Pay with AMEX and you get an additional year added to the initial warranty.
Note that if you buy with an AMEX card you get an extra year added on to the mfgr's warranty. I have had to use the service one time, and all went fine.
Lenore your instincts are right on. There's a difference between reference viewing and real world. My viewing rooms are not home theaters. They get plenty of light all year round. In summer it could be twelve hours, not two. A few months ago I asked a question about adjusting picture...
I have the same room situation, happy with a year old Sony LED. I'd suggest a high end LED...Sony, Samsung...in-home warranty service..no 3D...120 and 240 hz are both adequate speeds...don't pay for any internet ready crap..compare remotes, important for us older folks, some are easier to use...
Probably not many off brand owners here. One big difference is service under warranty, having a tech come to your home versus you paying freight to ship it back to the factory.
Jana, Jason said it all, it's about light vs. dark rooms. Plasma is great in a theater room, or anywhere at night, with all lights out. Any other conditions.....daytime viewing, lamps on at night, etc you'll prefer LCD. So when you watch and where is what matters most. Good luck!
Weird is right. As far back as I can remember TVs always had a "picture" button on the remote. This new set is an LCD in a bright room, so settings by day are way different than night.
Like my new KDL 46EX700 a lot, but got one surprise. To switch among picture modes - vivid, custom, standard - there's no button on the remote to do it! Have to go into the menu. I confirmed this with Sony support, very sympathetic but it's a "design limitation." I wonder if they did this with...
To go in a bright room, mostly used for HDTV including a lot of sports, and crappy homemade music DVDs. I have a four year old 42" XBR LCD in another room that is great, to my eyes and several visitors. I have no interest in 3D. I'd appreciate both high end and mid range suggestions. Thanks!
I've tried a few kits, none were any good. For years here's what I do with a 46" XBR LCD - - fold a paper towel twice so it's 1/4 size - wet the towel with hot water...don't soak it so much that it drips heavy - clean the TV with the wet towel, top to bottom, leaving it wet but not...
I've been reading about LCD motion blur and off-angle issues for a few years now. I have a 2007 42" Sony XBR LCD.
I watch tons of HD sports, with no blur and a good picture even from the side. I don't know if it's set quality or just luck.
Sony 46" XBR6 SciAnt DVR from Time Warner using HDMI connection Yamaha receiver, only used for sound, no switching This setup lets me listen through the tv speakers via HDMI, or the sound system using digital out from the DVR. Problem now is that I've lost the tv speakers. Switching out...
