    Firewire versus Component inputs

Thank you. But I only have the input choice of firewire or component High Def (DTS). The DTS does seem to be doing the job pretty well and the cable box has a digital audio out so I can plumb it straight into my amp whenever I want. Unusual that the TV doesn't have a digital audio input, as...

    Firewire versus Component inputs

Hi, My local cable company (Cablevision) provides HD cable boxes. They have the following outputs: Firewire USB HDMI/DVI Component co-ax (STD def) My Mitsubishi WS555-11 has the following inputs which I could use: Firewire Component some DTV inputs (not too sure what the difference...

    DVR/PVR Choice

Hi Everyone, It's time to get a digital recorder. I only have a couple of requirements: 1. It must have a DVD player/burner 2. It must be free service! I won't pay for TiVo! 3. It must work with a Cablevision cable box 4. If it can do HD I'd be really happy I have seen that Pioneer and...

    Sound and HDTV OTA Broadcast

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately my set doesn't have a signal meter. I played with the antenna last night and got improvement on the regular OTA picture, but no change on the HD. The fact that it is like this on *all* HD stations makes me wonder if something is wrong with the TV. Thankfully...

    Sound and HDTV OTA Broadcast

Hi Guys, We have a crappy Turk/Trek outdoor antenna with the usual splitters and the like so we can use the same co-ax for dish and OTA signals. Our HD signal is phenomenal, but we aren't getting *any* sound. We've had occasional problems with our set (Mitsubishi 52", mid range set with built...

HD reception - would a booster help?

Thanks. Yes I do have one of those wrap around the dish terk antenna. It was about the only option we had since our dish is mounted close to ground level. But that aside, according to antenna web, we are less than 15 miles from every tower...I'd have thought we could pick up from that range with...

Bad HD reception - would a booster help?

I live in an area which has pretty bad regular OTA broadcast reception. I have to move the Turk (?) antenna around the dish a lot. Our HD is sometimes excellent, and other times impossible. Last night was a clear night and I couldn't get a decent HD signal at all. Would using a signal booster...

    Pulsing noise from my sub!

Email sent. Let's see what Velodyne has to say :) Thank you!

    Pulsing noise from my sub!

I have an 8" Velodyne powered sub. When it is turned on there is a low pitched (duh!) fairly low volume pulse/beep that comes from it. Perhaps 10-15s between each sound. It does this when the sub is hooked up to the amp and when the line in signal is removed. So it clearly is the sub. Is this...

Buying a Mitsubishi widescreen - should I get the built in HD or not?

We went through the same dilema. There are some differences between the non-HD-tuner models and the tuner-incorporated models other than the presence of the tuner. I do not remember what they are though! We love our mitsu :)

    Good HDTV, bad OTA TV

Hi! We have a so-called HD TV Trek external antenna which is attached to our dish. Once the signal comes in to the house it is split into TV and dish signal. TV signal goes into the VCR, into the TV coax in, gets looped out and into the HDTV input. Perhaps a simple question but...the OTA...

    Wall mounting speakers

I would like to wall mount my speakers (on account of not wanting speaker stands 3 feet high to put them on the same level as my center chanel and to keep the rears in a position that they won't keep getting bumped into and knocked over) Anyway I have Energy Encore's (larger version of the...

Best way to set up outdoor antenna

Our antenna is attached to the dish so we aren't able to use what you suggested. I'm pretty happy with it (even though Terk appears to have a not so astounding reputation) and it pulls in regular and HD signals just fine :) It's just the fine tuning which is causing me some work!

Best way to set up outdoor antenna

Apart from the obvious of trial and error and lots of shouting indoors...is there anyway to set up a multi meter to an external antenna so the maximum signal strength can be used as a guide for tuning?

    HDTV antenna question- Indoor antenna?

Afraid I can't tell you anymore than that except it is made by Magnavox. It amplifies UHF and VHF signals. Works OK, but not as well as an external.

32" Direct View vs 42" RPTV

I went around and looked at many RPTV's although slightly more expensive than yours and found the Mitsubishi's to be the best compromise of features and picture quality. A 55" Gold series (no HD tuner) runs around 2200 and the 48" in Best Buy for 1699. There is a 42" which is cheaper still...

    HDTV antenna question- Indoor antenna?

We initially used an indoor antenna for HD. Bought it from Lowes for about 50. It has a rotating dish on it (claims to be omni-directional but that's a myth) and 2 rabbit ears. Built in amplifier. Worked well for us. We've just switched to an external antenna on our dish which works better...

Satellite with component/s video outs as good as coax?

See that's just it. I can understand not noticing much on my 27inch tube, but I figured the 55" rear projection would magnify any problems with the two sources. Right now I'm setting up an external antenna and trying to get the best possible way to connect the sat + ant to the VCR without...

Satellite with component/s video outs as good as coax?

We just had satellite hooked back up. Previously we saw a huge difference between s-video and composite (RCA/phono) or coax connections form the box to the TV. BUT...with the satellite the coax appears to be every bit as good as the S-video and RCA connection! This is true both for our Mitsu...

    OTA High Def Signal

Thanks guys...the TV has a built in digital/HD tuner so that part isn't the problem. As most of the stuff I tape is from OTA broadcast I would like to be able to send the signal into the VCR and from there into the ant-dtv input and still be able to view HDTV or record in standard definition as...

    For those who have DirecTV...

According to the dish network the 20 inch dish can pick up signals from 2 satellites at once...one for regular and one for local or HD programming. It's listed in their "offer" section. I'm going with dish because... 1. Its about 5 a month cheaper for Top 100 (which is all I want) 2. We...

    OTA High Def Signal

We are switching to satellite again. (Cable is just crap). To get the local channels and to get some HD programming I need to hook up an external antenna. If I bring the external signal in and route it through the sat box will I end up filtering out the HD signal and just end up with regular...

    Cable/Dishnetwork Digital and HD

Thank you Robert, you seem to have understood exactly what I was asking :) I'm guessing I can just as easily run 2 co-ax cables in tandem - one for the satellite and one for the OTA antenna - might avoid the diplexer losses. One further question...satellite will come in via the cable box and...

    Cable/Dishnetwork Digital and HD

Hi! A couple of questions, not exactly sure what to be asking but here goes... We currently have Cox digital cable (with a Motorola cable box - it has the standard 3 RCA outs, S video and coax). We also have Dishnetwork boxes and are considering switching back to that. What I want to be able...

Digital out on TV to receiver not working?

Because I was under the mistaken assumption that I could connect my VCR etc., to the TV first and then back to the receiver using the single digital cable. Thus getting rid of all of my splits due to lack of outputs on some of my equipment and in general simplifying things.

Digital out on TV to receiver not working?

Currently I have my cable going to the cable box, output form the cable box has a splitter so the audio goes to the receiver and to the TV. Video goes directly to the composite (non-progressive) inputs on the TV. The VCR is hooked up from the cable TV box using coax and using composite...

    Surrond from VHS?

I'll check the tape again. It really does make sense that a 2 channel couldn't put out 5.1.
  29. Steve Carlo

    Surrond from VHS?

That makes sense...but why would the tape say on it "recorded in Doly 5.1" I'm talking about commercial tapes (in this case Fifth Element)
  30. Steve Carlo

    Surrond from VHS?

I have a number of VHS tapes which are recorded in Dolby 5.1. But not surprisingly the VCR only has outputs for L and R audio. So I can pipe this to the TV and the receiver. But, how does the receiver turn this 2 chanel sound into true 5.1 as opposed to Pro Logic 5.1 sound? Thanks!
