Our antenna is attached to the dish so we aren't able to use what you suggested. I'm pretty happy with it (even though Terk appears to have a not so astounding reputation) and it pulls in regular and HD signals just fine :) It's just the fine tuning which is causing me some work!

Apart from the obvious of trial and error and lots of shouting indoors...is there anyway to set up a multi meter to an external antenna so the maximum signal strength can be used as a guide for tuning?

Afraid I can't tell you anymore than that except it is made by Magnavox. It amplifies UHF and VHF signals. Works OK, but not as well as an external.

I went around and looked at many RPTV's although slightly more expensive than yours and found the Mitsubishi's to be the best compromise of features and picture quality. A 55" Gold series (no HD tuner) runs around 2200 and the 48" in Best Buy for 1699. There is a 42" which is cheaper still...

That makes sense...but why would the tape say on it "recorded in Doly 5.1" I'm talking about commercial tapes (in this case Fifth Element)

I have a number of VHS tapes which are recorded in Dolby 5.1. But not surprisingly the VCR only has outputs for L and R audio. So I can pipe this to the TV and the receiver. But, how does the receiver turn this 2 chanel sound into true 5.1 as opposed to Pro Logic 5.1 sound? Thanks!
