I envy you having to watch this for the first time in magnificent quality. My first viewing was on a pan scanned rental VHS in the 80's. Make sure you watch it on a big screen, it really is a film made for the big screen.
The cult Japanese 70's scifi cartoon, Captain Future, is being released on BD in Germany.
Growing up watching German TV I have very fond childhood memories of this show, and will be getting the Blurays this time. The long time OOP 2003 DVD's are going for insane prices at Amazon.de.
Great interview. Thanks.
The new Arrow UK BD is on Amazon UK for 13£.
There is some mention of minor digital tinkering in the interview. Purists might want to wait and hear the extent of it, before purchase.
Does anyone know if the disc was fixed in other areas besides the US? Specifically if the UK and Scandinavian editions contain the correct English soundtrack?
The Danish original also had a second season, which is not quite as good as the first season but still quality TV. Both can be watched on their own, there are no end-of-season cliffhangers. A third season will debut on Danish TV in the fall of 2012. Very much looking forward to this one.
Hen's Tooth's own website: http://www.henstoothvideo.com/bluray.html
lists the release as 1.78:1. Imdb has the OAR listed as 2.35:1.
Fingers crossed that Mr. Dobbs and Harris are correct, and it was shot flat.

About the Police Story blu-rays. They range from total crap to mediocre, and are Region A locked as well which my current player can't handle :-( http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDReviews48/police_story_blu-ray.htm http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDReviews49/police_story_2_blu-ray.htm...
Vertigo Ghostbusters II (what happened here? It was announced 3 years ago) High Road to China True Lies The rest of the Bond movies Police Story I-IV (Jackie Chan) The Last of the Finest aka Blue Heat (1990). Apparently it was shown on MGMHD F/X and FX2 L'As des As (Jean Paul Belmondo) L'Animal...
The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo is worth a blind purchase in my opinion, if you don't mind foreign language films. A word of warning however. The sequels are not in the same league as the first film (personal opinion), and I wouldn't recommend them for blind purchase when they are released...
Given that Kurt Russell actually directed the film, that would explain it . Check out this article http://hollywood-elsewhere.com/2006/09/russell_ghosted.php
I'm not convinced this release is the theatrical cut. The statement at bluray.com says 138 mins. But the theatrical cut ran 134 mins,
and the director's cut runs 144 mins. Adjusting the 144 mins to PAL speedup results in 138 mins.
Maybe Sony are preapring a European DVD release of the director's...
Yes I ordered from Amazon UK, but I live in Denmark and wouldn't have a clue what the shipping is to the US. Sorry.
This is my fourth Highlander incarnation. I am also the owner of and old VHS edition, the 2 disc Immortal Edition DVD with the Queen videos, and the 10th Anniversary Laserdisc (the...
The steelbook is Blu-ray sized.
I went ahead and bought it based on comments in this thread, and I have to tell ya, it blows the previous DVD editions right out of the water. Sure there is a lot of grain in some scenes, but this is probably due to the film stock used for the film, and thankfully...
Merci Jerome. My French is just good enough to make out the details of the review. Even though the audio/video is rated as average its still a must have for me. Too bad its not the Ultimate Edition I was hoping for. Guess I still have to hang on to my old Laserdisc for the still gallery and...
Looking at Amazon UK today I discovered much to my surprise that Highlander (one of my favourites) is up for a BluRay release. Highlander: Immortal Edition (Limited Edition Steelbook) [Blu-ray] [1986]: Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery, Clancy Brown, Russell Mulcahy: Amazon.co.uk: DVD How...
I haven't seen this myself but am relying on Mr. Harris expert opinions. This discussion is yet another in the long line of cases of studio tampering with our beloved films. Starting with OAR, continuing with soundtrack mixes, we're now stuck with transfers designed for the videogaming...
In case you haven't tried this already: On my Panasonic BD-55 you need to press the secondary audio button on the remote to enable the audio associated with the PiP video.
I'm also referring to the audio pitch. The pitch increase on PAL DVD's arise from speeding up the video from 24 fps to 25 fps (4%), thus increasing the speed of the audio by the same 4%. Increasing the audio speed is the source of the pitch increase. But it is the 24p capabilities of the...
If you have a 24p capable player AND display, there should be no pitch issues since the film is played at the same speed on disc as it was in theatres (24 frames per second). I say "should" because apparently Studio Canal used some pitch corrected masters for HD-DVD.
I'm having trouble identifying a movie I saw on VHS around 1984-85. It was a spy movie of some sort. I remember a scene were the main character was inside a room with a giant chessboard and pieces. I think the movie must have been made in the 70's or early 80's. It was in colour and english...
