For almost five years I've had a Samsung 3D Blu-ray player (FT5700 I believe) and an Epson 6030UB projector. It worked together flawlessly until my Yamaha receiver failed and I replaced it with an Onkyo TX-RZ810; after about 15 minutes of play everything shuts down, and I have to restart. Any...
"Have you heard? FilmStruck, the exclusive streaming service home of the Criterion Collection, is now available on Roku devices and TVs. You can also watch it on Chromecast Ultra and second-generation Google Chromecast devices, fourth-generation Apple TV devices, Amazon Fire TV, and web, iOS...
Peter Bogdanovich's excellent 1979 film, which Scorpion remastered and reissued on DVD in 2015, is now on Blu-ray in a presentation that adds several bonus features. Screen Archives and Ronin Flix offer it. My "two-tiered" review here: https://letterboxd.com/bobcashill/film/saint-jack/
Playing in a handful of theaters, this new horror Western is much easier to steam, via some cable services, Amazon, and Vudu. And if you like the idea of old pros Kurt Russell and Richard Jenkins pursuing cave-dwelling cannibals in the Old West, chances are you'll enjoy the movie, with the...
More proof of the death of DVD? http://blogs.indiewire.com/criticwire/simpsons-showrunner-al-jean-says-no-further-seasons-will-be-released-on-dvd-20150408
Just received this welcome region-free Digibook from Amazon.fr. One disc has the 125m international cut of the movie, in French with a plethora of subtitle options, including Engish hard of hearing; the disc also has the English dub, which runs 119m. A second disc has special features that...
In beta and on Roku at the moment. What do we think? (Moderator please post in the Archive Announcement thread if more appropriate.) http://criterioncast.com/news/warner-archive-collection-launches-streaming-service/
I know he knows about us, but my Facebook friend doesn't post his Post DVD columns here. And he should, as they have lots of insider info. (Join us, Lou!) So when I see he's done one, I'll post a link to it. Today: Stuff about the new Olive DVDs and, much obliged, info about the August wave of...
50% off DVDs and BDs for 75,000 seconds, in honor of its 75,000 Facebook "likes." Go for it: http://www.criterion.com/. (I posted this in the Consolidated HD Bargains thread in Blu-ray, but if a moderator wants to extract it feel free.)
Interesting that Julie Taymor's take on the play (with Helen Mirren and Russell Brand) will be on Blu-ray only via Disney. It's available next Tuesday. Has this ever happened with a new release from a major studio?
Anyone who loves movies is indebted to Krim; I'm sure many of us have Kino DVDs on our shelves. "He supervised the acquisition and release of many important films that might not have reached American shores without his discriminating taste and distribution savvy"--NY Times obit...
From its Facebook page: "To celebrate crossing 50,000 fans, we set up a promo code "THANKS" that gives 50% off MSRP on all in-stock DVDs and Blu-rays at criterion.com. But don't miss out — the code will expire after 50,000 seconds! (Sale started around 8:15pm Eastern time.)"

I see the film, released back in the day, has been reissued with new packaging--is it the same flipper disc, though? Be nice to have it all on one side.
After a year-long postponement Paramount has rescheduled Roman Polanksi's '76 film to July 1, according to DVDFile.com. The only feature will be the trailer, and the film will be 16:9-enhanced with mono sound.
Answering my own question in a different thread, I went over to the Virgin Megastore today and checked out BARBAROSA, which had just arrived. It's a very good, fable-like Western from 1982, with Willie Nelson and Gary Busey, and directed by Fred Schepisi. Most if not all of Schepisi's films...
The standard side (which contains several extras) refuses to play on my Sony Vaio and Pioneer players. Anyone else have any troubles? While I think MGM's Midnite Movies discs are terrific (LAST HOUSE is no exception) I must gripe about the spindles that hold the discs. You really have to...
Having surprised us with the hitherto unavailable British cut of THE DOGS OF WAR on DVD (and thanks very much for it) how about that other merc classic, DARK OF THE SUN (1968)?
A terrific actioner that cries out for an uncut, anamorphic LTX transfer, I think it was scheduled for LD, but never...
I received the HBO Video disc over the weekend; contrary to what I'd read on a few DVD sites, the disc is letterboxed (1:85 aspect ratio) but not anamorphic. [It also runs the correct 123 minutes, not the 120 most sites list.] It looks OK on my 27" TV.
The film, a Time-Life production released...
My LD/DVD combo unit, a workhorse for the last two years or so, has gone glitchy on me--DVDs freezing for a few moments then recovering, or the disc stopping altogether. Unplugging the unit for a day or two and giving it a rest has solved the problems, but not eliminated them.
Is it time to...
