Found this thread after Googling for Barry Lyndon & Lolita on high-def. I was surprised they weren't part of the releases of the other films on high-def. I would definiely get bluray versions of both films should they be released.

My copy has the director-approved sticker on the box.

I've been viewing WS dvds in letterbox on a 4:3 Panasonic 29" TV with s-video for some time and am considering the 4:3 Sony WEGAs. How much an improvement is it going from that to displaying WS material in Wide-mode via component cables? Would adding a progressive player help?

Theres missing foley effects in the scene when Raoul crawls into the cardboard box on the bed... plus the ones mentioned. And this affects the DTS 5.1 as well.

eric, I've seen neither Rushmore or Bottle Rocket but was immediately charmed by the royal tenenbaums from start to finish. Would be safe to say that you will at LEAST like, if not REALLY love, this one. But lets see what others have to say...

Just to add to the show of hands and that i'd pre-order the second it was announced! (i was 7 when i first saw it, while it was quite lengthy, i could not take my eyes off it while it unfolded... i recall it had a very intriguing look in the set design)

The 2nd disc played fine on my Pioneer 233. Probably a bad disc. Have it exchanged. But i think you'll still have the frame skip/pause on the 1st disc.

rob, It definitely isn't in the source material. Players that can handle the glitch would either skip the frame (very very hard to catch) or display pixel squares. The ones that can;t handle it (especially the Pioneers) freeze or pause for 1 sec and resume. It could be an authoring or...

My favourite among all of the Kubricks. Favourite scene - when the elder Lyndon son walks his step-brother into the music hall and the ensuing chaos. Another favourite is when they are in the study room.

On DVD-ROM, it skips the frame without dropping audio. Instead of travelling smoothly, the vehicle shifts a bit to the right. I think this will be the case for many non Pioneer players.. almost unnoticeable. But you'd have to really look for it as Jason would say. It will vary across dvd...

I think i might have spoiled the Twin Peaks murder story arc for myself by reading the soundtrack review at amazon.com. It says that Leland killed Laura Palmer... is this true? The reviewer was sort of using it as an expression so it may not be right....:frowning:

I'm sure its not a layer change because the that occurs later in the movie (after the 60 minute mark, i think). The Pioneer player says 'search' on the panel when there is a layer change. In this case, at 27:24, the player just pauses for a second and resumes at 27:25 and pauses again.

I have Bjork's Vespertine and as i don't have a DVD-A player i had to listen to the DD track and it IS 5.1. There was no lack of bass and i actually had to turn the volume down slightly.
