We drove this road to Lake Tahoe last summer with our friends who live in Reno. Beautifully scenic but must be a nightmare after a big winter snowfall.
It's from an HTF SoCal meet in 1997(?) organized by Ron Epstein at Warner Bros. Studios. It was a great event and Warner's generously rolled out the red carpet for the HTF attendees.
Oh gawd... I just finished reading the "The Wild Bunch: Sam Peckinpah, a Revolution in Hollywood, and the Making of a Legendary Film" book, and can't imagine how a remake could possibly be a good idea. The actors Peckinpah picked (both American & Mexican) were the "Wild Bunch". These kind of...
Having read the book this movie was based on, I can say it accurately reflects the book's events and timeline. As far as the "true tale"; since it's told by those who were actually there, yeah I'd say it's true. Unless one prefers to believe the armchair pundits thousands of miles away.
Interesting stuff. No mention of the odd effects used in several scenes in the 2 episodes I watched where a subject's face was in focus but everything else (even close proximity areas like an arm or clothing) was misfocused into an ugly bokeh. Reminded me of effects from the 60's Outer Limits TV...
Watched the first two episodes and I'm done.
Bizarre, artsy focus effects, and screen matting quickly became annoying. My wife may stay with it (probably for Julia Roberts) but I found the show pretentious and boring. Switched to the The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and now I'm hooked.
Will definitely be picking this one up as it's one of my favorites. I saw this at the theater when it first screened in 78' and was shocked to recognize most of the locations were within a mile of my apartment in North Alhambra. Although I've long since moved out of the area, I've driven by them...
Just watched it and was amazed at the restoration quality. Far better then when I saw at the theater in 79'. Coming on the heels of Halloween it was great time for horror fans. And recognizing numerous scenes using nearby locations only added to its appeal for me.
This film brings back so many poignant memories for me. I had just graduated HS and saw it at a local theater on a date with my girlfriend (who resembled a young Jennifer O'Neal). Everything about it seemed so true and relatable to life. What a beautiful film for those halcyon days of youth...
My wife and I really enjoyed MITJ. Very well written with engaging characters and witty dialogue. Gael García Bernal's Rodrigo really carries the show, but it's also the ensemble acting that makes this gem so pleasurable.
Just picked up a Samsung 65KS800D and UBD-KM85c during Costco's Black Friday sales. Considered a 70", but nothing comparable anywhere near the price and we sit just over 8' distance eyeball to screen and watch a lot of DirecTV. Calibrated using the RTings settings; looks fantastic with...
John: On my Denon 1803 I have no problem with analog speaker volume. Try using the setup buttom to adjust the sound level of all the analog channels higher. You'll need to set the audio on the video source for the HD-A1 to EXT-IN, then press setup and scroll thru the speakers, setting each to...
My feelings mirror Scott's. My wife and I eagerly anticipated the film and up until the wife's hospital visit following the front-yard shootout, we were "caught up" in the drama. From this point on we found the family's behavior unrealistic and contrived.
I loved this 1976 era mini-series when it was aired. First major role for Nick Nolte, and Peter Strauss. I see there's a region 2 version. Can't believe it hasn't made it to region 1 DVD yet.
Overall I felt this was a very effective and suspenseful film. Although in the actual incident the couple was not believed to have been killed by sharks, this film plays this primordial fear expertly. Like others I was disappointed in the video quality. There was a very low level of detail on...
Does anyone know of any plans for a DVD of "At Play in the Fields of the Lord"? This would be a great DVD with its panoramic cinematography and ensemble cast.
