What's the best 'active servo' sub on the market for the money?

Bruce, So are the HGSX subs IDENTICAL to the HGS? Can you tell us what the differences, if any, are? thanks

Dipolar for rear and surround ona 7.1 system?

You reeeeally owe it to yourself to experiment. Of all the home theaters I've listened to, the ones with dipole side speakers sounded the best to me. I think it's because I don't like bullets, doorslams, footsteps, etc. coming at me from the sides...totally distracts from what's going on on the...

    Velodyne HGS-18 vs. SVS PB2-Plus

In the comparisons, don't forget that the ported SVS enclosures have a bit of an advantage over the sealed/smaller Velodyne. Tom laid out the comparisons pretty darned well, IMHO.

Current JBL Speakers - Not What They Used To Be

I've got old pairs of the L100s and L69s. Gotta tell, they are some damned excellent speakers. For the last 15 years or so, I've been using the 4412's as multi-use monitors for my synthesiszer AND for casual music and tv listening. Aside from their bulky shape, they are absolutely phenomenal...

    No center channel, thoughts?

2 things: 1) Tony Genovese was correct in what he said...go re-read it. A phantom center and a real center DO sound different..there's a slight bit of hollowness(a psychoacoustic artifact) to a phantom center image, but whether that's annoying is your call. Regular stereo with a phantom...

Are speakers about to be out-done? Interesting Article on HyperSonic Sound

Last time I read about this, I fell off my pet dinosaur. This was all the "hype" five years ago. For many technical reasons, I don't think it'll ever make it for audiophile sound. For store advertising, automobiles and announcements, it'll be cool, but for home audio, I doubt it will make the...

svs ultra driver or tumult driver?

Bri, I guess you don't need to ask the chicks whether I'm a commitmentphobe or not. Jack, Although I'm more of a fan of sealed enclosures, I'd be curious to know about the passive rads as well. And of course, if you come across any better ideas for a 14" cube, I'm all ears. In the end...

svs ultra driver or tumult driver?

Yep, in comparison to the Rythmik, waaay too pricey for THIS budget. Now if they knocked $200 off of it...then I'd consider it. BTW, it's a bummer that the servo kit locks you into their driver and that box size. Otherwise, it does look interesting. So far, it looks like the Rythmik amp + AV12...

svs ultra driver or tumult driver?

Jack, Thanks for the link to 52100 Digital amp. Do you have any idea of what the cost is, and do you think it would be a better idea than the Stryke 380 watter? Randy

svs ultra driver or tumult driver?

Brian, My buddies and I are trying to be environMENTALLY conscious by reducing the amount of formaldehyde fumes(MDF) introduced into the environment as a result of the MDF manufacturing process. And if you pull my finger, it plays Jingle Bells.

svs ultra driver or tumult driver?

"Other plate amps just hardwire an LFE(unfiltered) input specifically for this reason." Ya mean amps that don't have any crossover built in, right? I don't think the Rythmik or Stryke amps have 24 db/octave rolloffs...maybe 18db at best.

svs ultra driver or tumult driver?

Well, if I could find twice the power in a plate amp that could fit inside a 14" cube, I might consider it. One thing I'm a little surprised at is the lack of a "crossover defeat" switch. Most of today's processors have built-in xovers and it shouldn't be necessary to cascade filters such as...

svs ultra driver or tumult driver?

Jack, Thanks for the head's up....I appreciate it. Maybe Brian will send me some response numbers so that I can see if it'll give me the output I'm looking for in my 3000 cu.ft. room. Now don't give me that funny look...I'm not looking for anything outrageous at 20 hz.(it's a condo), just...

svs ultra driver or tumult driver?

Hello....Mr. Frugalskate here, Thanks for the suggestion, Jack. As I've stated before, my priorities are 14" sealed cube, plate amp, and some useable clean output at 20 hz. Between the Brahma and the AV-12, I'll have to ask Brian to run the numbers...which he already may have done. I'll...
