I just finished evaluating a KDP-65XBR2 at the local B&M. While lighting conditions were a bit harsh, I tried to set up as good a compromise as possible.
My main objectives were to determine if the XBR2 suffers from the same "banding" and other technical flaws as the XBR10W and HS10 series sets...

They may also change a small "chip" capacitor (which sometimes doesn't help, either!)

There is a fix, involving some changes to values in the service menu.
If you're still under warranty (actually, even if you're not.... since it's an engineering/manufacturing defect) call Sony's service center at 800-222-7669 and request a service call to correct the factory defect.

I'm begging other owners to check their set for THIS defect; I'll describe it as best I can:
As overall picture brightness goes down, shadow areas get "squashed" to black, and each CRT has a different "response," so there is also a false color edge created.
Test patterns which reveals it well...
I own the 65XBR10W. These are just my personal opinions based on my needs and test evaluations...and I tested Sony, Mits and Tosh INTENSELY. I don't think the store likes having me around so much!
