I personally would have chosen the Oppo OPDV971H player myself if you are on a budget. Second only to the Denon DVD-5910 on the Secrets list and an MSRP of $199.00. Even if you're not on a budget it's a great player. Joseph
I purchased my TX-SR501 refurbished from eCost back in Dec. of 2003. It came sealed with Onyko refurb stickers and the notice that it carried a 1yr warranty. I've used it often since then, and it's served me well. Joseph
The orange 'halo' in finding nemo will be visible to some extent on any screen. It's intentional. Watch the movie with the commentary track, or watch the copious special features, and thet talk about how the clown fish in the movie are modeled in 3D with the computer set to produce their flesh...
The X1 was designed as a cross segment projector. It was designed for business use, but with HT elements to make it useful there as well. The 4805 was designed specifically for HT. The 4805 is a native 16x9 projector with 4x3 modes, has a newer Foroudja chip, and a better DLP chipset. It also...

Something else cool from that show. The NEC lensless DLP projector. Can project a 100" image at a distance of 26" away from the screen. NEC Lensless DLP Projector Joseph

Here's a picture: Sony black screen the black screen is on the right, conventional screen is on the left. Notice the lamps beside both screens. Very impressive looking! Joseph

What type of connection are you using to the TV? Composite or S-video to the TV will always be sub-optimal. If you're TV has a DVI interface, I'd suggest using it.
I don't really see a point to HD-DVD until more movies are filmed with HD cameras. It's like putting the cart before the horse. Right now the use of HD equipment in movie making is still pretty low. George Lucas and Robert Rodriguez come to mind, but who else is actually filming movies in HD...
From the last part of your post, it sounds like you're picking up static before touching the amp and then discharging when you touch it. If you can touch a metal rack and then touch the amp without shock then it doesn't sound like the amp and a lot like normal static electricity. Static...
I bought my refurbished Onkyo TX-SR501 from ecost.com for $194 shipped to my house with a 1yr warranty direct from Onkyo. For the cost you cannot find a better receiver, period. Build quality, sound quality, and features cannot be touched by anything else in that price range.
Excellent news! Upgrading to a 5900 is certainly going beyond the call of duty. I might just be buying thet 2200 or 2900 after all. Please let us know when you finally receive your receiver.
