Toshiba listened!! The SD-5980 is a solid HDMI player!

I personally would have chosen the Oppo OPDV971H player myself if you are on a budget. Second only to the Denon DVD-5910 on the Secrets list and an MSRP of $199.00. Even if you're not on a budget it's a great player. Joseph

    Refurbished Onkyo @ eCOST.com

I purchased my TX-SR501 refurbished from eCost back in Dec. of 2003. It came sealed with Onyko refurb stickers and the notice that it carried a 1yr warranty. I've used it often since then, and it's served me well. Joseph

    4805, pb6100 or optoma H30

The orange 'halo' in finding nemo will be visible to some extent on any screen. It's intentional. Watch the movie with the commentary track, or watch the copious special features, and thet talk about how the clown fish in the movie are modeled in 3D with the computer set to produce their flesh...

    Infocus X1 Vs 4805

The X1 was designed as a cross segment projector. It was designed for business use, but with HT elements to make it useful there as well. The 4805 was designed specifically for HT. The 4805 is a native 16x9 projector with 4x3 modes, has a newer Foroudja chip, and a better DLP chipset. It also...

PLEASE HELP - Computer to Grand WEGA

What type of connection are you using to the TV? Composite or S-video to the TV will always be sub-optimal. If you're TV has a DVI interface, I'd suggest using it.

So when will we see HD DVD???

I don't really see a point to HD-DVD until more movies are filmed with HD cameras. It's like putting the cart before the horse. Right now the use of HD equipment in movie making is still pretty low. George Lucas and Robert Rodriguez come to mind, but who else is actually filming movies in HD...

    static shock when touching amp?

From the last part of your post, it sounds like you're picking up static before touching the amp and then discharging when you touch it. If you can touch a metal rack and then touch the amp without shock then it doesn't sound like the amp and a lot like normal static electricity. Static...

best budget value 5.1 reciever? like, $100-150 cheap?

I bought my refurbished Onkyo TX-SR501 from ecost.com for $194 shipped to my house with a 1yr warranty direct from Onkyo. For the cost you cannot find a better receiver, period. Build quality, sound quality, and features cannot be touched by anything else in that price range.

Excellent news! Upgrading to a 5900 is certainly going beyond the call of duty. I might just be buying thet 2200 or 2900 after all. Please let us know when you finally receive your receiver.

    Denon LOST my 3800!

Michael, I work in the US but follow Asia Pacific time, so I understand how hard it is to talk to anyone during the daytime. Good luck with getting your player back.

    Denon LOST my 3800!

Wow, that Denon 2200 doesn't look all that attractive anymore. You can tell a lot about a company by how they run their service department, and this is not encouraging. Please let us know if/when they rectify the situation.

Why no love for the Panasonic XR25/XR45 HT receivers here??

LanceJ, I don't see where anyone said these receivers sucked. Did I miss something? I stand by my comment about it needing more inputs. I don't know about you, but I need more than 3 inputs on a HT reciver because I have more than three sources. And I'm by no means an equipment snob. It just...

HDMI and/or DVI on upcoming receivers?

So far only displays and source devices support HDMI, unless a new HDMI enabled product not in those categories was released at CES and I missed it. What's the point if none of the HDMI group members aren't going to produce a receiver that accepts the signal? Is anyone who would used HDMI really...

Why no love for the Panasonic XR25/XR45 HT receivers here??

Why no love? First and foremost, when I think quality receivers, Panasonic doesn't make it anywhere near the top of my list. Second, it's relatively new technology, and people are slow to change from tried and true methods, even if newer methods work well. Also, when I see that slim footprint, I...

DVD Player w/ DVI under $300?

I believe the Samsung DVD-HD931 fits in that price range and has DVI, but from the review I read in either Home Theater or Sound and Vision it was panned for mediocre picture quality and black issues. The same thing online. There's also the Bravo D1, which also has DVI and weighs in at $199...

Recommended DVD Players for $2000 or Less

If it were my money, I'd buy the Denon 5900. It's a very, very attractive unit. I've got a friend with the Marantz DV-4800 and he loves it. For your budget, just about everything you're going to find that does DVD is also going to be an all-in-one player, except for the McIntosh, since that...

Why are we supposed to buy DLP and LCD TVs instead of CRT ones?!!!

DLP, LCD and Plasma are nice becuase with a VESA or DVI connector you can use them as computer monitors. Pixel based technologies like DLP and LCD will also have perfect geometry during their lifetime, unlike CRT. Plasma can burn in just like CRT. Plasma also uses an exceptional amount of...

FINDING NEMO and halo effect (MERGED THREAD)

James, it's covered on the commentary track and it's intentional. The commentary track branches to a section of the extras where the director talks about how the fishes are rendered as sort of a gummy substance so that they appear to glow in some scenes. You can reach that particular section by...
