Dick Cook, Chairman of the Walt Disney Studios spoke at this summer's Annual Convention of the NFFC, the club for Disney Enthusiasts. The Septeber/October 2004 issue of the FantasyLine Express (the club's newsletter) reported part of his talk:
I can understand that the scarcity of HD camera/editing equipment is limiting the number of events included in the HD coverage. I caught the opening day ceremonies on and off on Saturday, and thought that technically, the coverage was wonderful. The placement of commercial breaks was just plain...
Does this mean that most widescreen TV's do NOT lock into "Full" mode when they receive a progressive scan signal? What would a non-anamorphically-enhanced widescreen film look like from the Mitsubishi DD-8040 into my TV (locks into Full mode...)? Letterboxed within pillar-boxes?
OK guys, please forgive me, but I want to be sure I understand what you are all saying. My (sadly departed) RP91 sent my TV a progressive signal, which caused the set to lock into the "Full" mode. I could go into the RP91's menu, and select most of same modes as were available from my TV (if...
Sean, It's nice to know that I'm not the only one with this problem. My RP91 died and apparently can't be fixed, so I'm looking for today's best version of the same thing. Thanks to you all for your suggestions.
Meghan/Stephen, Thanks for your responses. I'll look into the Denon 4800, but I'm really interested in a single disc player. Do you know of any? It may be that I'll just have to turn off the progressive scan (or revert to my interlace player/laserdisc combo player) when I'm not playing an...
I was just at the internet movie database for the first time in a few weeks and noticed that Leonard Maltin's reviews were no longer available.
Anyone know what happened?
Robert: Thanks for the response; I take it that the Motorola HD-220 somehow attaches to the RCA 100 to decode the cable's HDTV signal?
Chris: I agree.
Erik: Definitely...
Now....if only we could get the Washington Post to carry programming info for Digital TV stations.
Does anyone know if the HDTV signal will be decodable by the already-out-there converter boxes?
I have the RCA 100 (forgot its exact model, it was the first more-or-less reasonably priced one on the market last year) and would hope that I could continue to use it...and I'm already a...
Sometime in the 1980's I had the great pleasure to attend a lecture given by Chuck Jones at the AFI's Kennedy Center theater. He alternated his talk with showings of (what were described to us as) archival prints of some half-dozen or so WB cartoons. Definitely a magical day. If a DVD can...
I saw the 3-strip Technicolor print of Oz when it was in the theaters (the Uptown, in Washington, DC). The colors were eye-popping. There was the occasional 'halo' effect due to the fact that the individual separations had dried out in different ways, and the images no longer lined up...
Scott M,
Look on the bright side... at least those bottom-rung announcers kept quiet during large portions of the Opening Ceremonies. From what I've read in the paper, Katie Couric and Bob Costas were blabbering alot.
Scott P,
I figured that NBC sold relatively few ads because of the...
