I started with a Hitachi at the dawn of CDs, then a Pioneer 5 or 6 disc magazine, which was a pain to use so I switched to a Harmon Kardon FL 8400, a five disc carousel. I'm not sure if there is a real difference in how $200 CD players sound but I think the HK sounded better than other I demo'd...
I just conducted a very simple test at J&R between the xr70 and a Yamaha 2500. I couldn't really be too picky so the saleman chose a pair of bookshelf speakers and A/B'd the recievers The detail out of the Panasonic was amazing. In a jazz piece I heard a level of detail in the cymbals and...
I have the Delphi unit with two base stations. The reason I got it was to have music in my office. My building in NYC does not recieve FM, and the idea of keeping a stack of CDs around wasn't too appealing. After listening to a friends set up for 5 minutes, I was sold--after considering the...
thanks Sid and Marty. I still find some time for music listening even with my kids around. I think a close to live music experience is more important to me than a movie theater in the house (the HT still sounds pretty darn good), so I'm leaning towards the 3000. Hopefully I'll decide while...
Sid, maybe you can also answer the question I posed to Marty on another thread 3000/3200. Would you trade the front effects for DPL 2. Price isn't a big issue, they're close enough with the 3000s being cleared out. What is the 3200 supposed to do better than the 3000, other than DPL 2?
I think...
Marty, your just the type of person I'm looking for. I have an older Yamaha receiver and am a big fan of the DSP modes. I want to replace it with a newer Yamaha, and thought the 3200 would probably be my choice. With the 3000s being cleared out, I'm taking one last look at that one too. I'm...
J&R is supposed to be putting the rx-v3200 on the floor today ($1499, I think), and I've seen them listed at some e-tailers. Has anyone had a chance to listen to one yet?
I'll probably head to J&R in the next couple of days, but the environment doesn't seem to lend itself to any sort of...
I use a variety of the DSPs on my r-xv890 (dolby surround). for movies one of the wider modes does the trick, but I can't wait to upgrade to DD/DTS so that some real sound comes out of my rears.
Music is actually where I use the DSPs the most. For good recordings straight 2-channel is fine...
What does front effects channels mixed into mains actually, or possibly mean? Could it mean that there is a second set of connections for the same channel (main L/R)to run a second set of smaller speakers, that are not separately powered? I don't even know if this is possible, but it would be...
I found the card I got from J and R. The phone number into the retail store (so this is not an internet sale), is 212-238-9000, ext 2124. The salesman I spoke to is Aurelio Lewis.
J and R is authourized and is selling it for $900, last I checked. But they don't sell it on their web/phone system. If you can get through to the retail store, a salesman can help you.
Derek, I would like to hear more of your impressions on the 2200. I admit to being a DSP fan and for now am leaning towards this unit over the Denon and Onkyo.
