If this selection from Paramount's Centennial Collection is anything like the many previous releases, nobody has to worry. In my opinion, the quality of the earlier films was superb. I see no reason for this one to be any different. Keep up the good work, Paramount!
Kudos to Criterion for releasing this gem from 1973. It's a shame Paramount didn't release it. This Criterion edition is more expensive than a Paramount release would have been. Guess I'll just save my money up to buy this DVD. I haven't seen it since 73. Looking forward to getting to know this...
Hey Disney! I've got a better idea! How about a release of the early 60's live action "The Prince And The Pauper" with Guy Williams and Sean Scully instead of the usual "let's re-release some of our lesser animated stuff, because nobody will know about the good work we used to do".
Wow! Not only do you get all of these movies (probably not seen by most viewers in many years, if at all), but two great features on William Wellman. I love those programs from "The Men Who Made The Movies". Now, when do we get the Alfred Hitchcock episode from this show?
Great review, Matt! My wife is a huge fan of this film. Come to think of it, I think it's pretty darn good too! David Lean was a fantastic director. Charles Laughton was a super actor. You can't miss with this intelligent and entertaining movie. Thanks, Criterion for throwing in the BBC film too.
