If this selection from Paramount's Centennial Collection is anything like the many previous releases, nobody has to worry. In my opinion, the quality of the earlier films was superb. I see no reason for this one to be any different. Keep up the good work, Paramount!
Kudos to Criterion for releasing this gem from 1973. It's a shame Paramount didn't release it. This Criterion edition is more expensive than a Paramount release would have been. Guess I'll just save my money up to buy this DVD. I haven't seen it since 73. Looking forward to getting to know this...
Hey Disney! I've got a better idea! How about a release of the early 60's live action "The Prince And The Pauper" with Guy Williams and Sean Scully instead of the usual "let's re-release some of our lesser animated stuff, because nobody will know about the good work we used to do".
Wow! Not only do you get all of these movies (probably not seen by most viewers in many years, if at all), but two great features on William Wellman. I love those programs from "The Men Who Made The Movies". Now, when do we get the Alfred Hitchcock episode from this show?
Great review, Matt! My wife is a huge fan of this film. Come to think of it, I think it's pretty darn good too! David Lean was a fantastic director. Charles Laughton was a super actor. You can't miss with this intelligent and entertaining movie. Thanks, Criterion for throwing in the BBC film too.
I appreciate your dedication to a show, despite the music changes, but I see it the other way: If enough people are willing to NOT buy the series, maybe the studios will stop ruining shows such as My Three Sons, WKRP In Cincinnati, and The Fugitive.

"You don't have to know how to lay an egg to smell a bad one" IF CBS/PARAMOUNT HAS SCREWED UP Volume TWO LIKE THEY DID Volume ONE, THEY WILL NOT GET MY MONEY! IT'S AS SIMPLE AS THAT! BILL PARISHO

This is a tough call. I have the Paramount DVD of this title which I paid an amazing $5 for! As usual, Criterion is asking an over-inflated price for one of their titles. However, they do offer something interesting bonus features. And it does have two discs! Wow! I think I just talked myself...
My feeling is that Quo Vadis is one of the earlier biblical epics but may not be one of the better ones. The performances by Ustinov and Genn do elevate the film's status. However, having said that, I believe, Ken, that this was one of your best DVD reviews. Perhaps, I may still buy this title...
I'll probably buy this set for the new bonus features. One minor quibble: Instead of "The Case of Mr. Pelham" episode from Alfred Hitchcock Presents they should have included the "Lamb To The Slaughter" episode instead (which ended up on a different disc). I figured since that show and Vertigo...
Nice review! Like you, I saw this film in the theaters in 1978. I liked the movie then and I still like the film. I think the best way to describe the movie is "a very silly and very exciting movie".
Good job RickER: I wish more people would stand up to companies that gouge TV fans. I don't mind season sets broken up into 2 volumes. But they should at least charge a fair price for half a season of a 50's black and white show. Especially when they don't include bonus features! Bill Parisho
obviously there are many ways they can add cool stuff to later volumes. Meanwhile, continued kudos to Sony for getting this series right. Fabulous quality at an affordable price. I can't stress enough the importance of sending a nice e-mail praising Sony for their efforts. Heaven knows how many...
Danger! Danger! Avoid The Fugitive: Season Two, Volume One at all costs! "Some music" hasn't been replaced! All the music has been replaced! If you don't believe it, check out the reviews on Amazon. They couldn't pay me to take this abomination! Bill Parisho
While all of the titles in this collection seem interesting, no question about it, Executive Suite is the classic in the bunch. The first time I saw this movie, I was hooked. And I only saw it for the first time a year ago! And that was on television! Bill
