    Apple TV+ Terence Malick's Badlands on ATV+?

One more comment. MoviesAnywhere lists the movie file size, a very useful feature, to enable an informed download. For Badlands the HD file size is 5.6GB, that is small & implies a low bit rate encode, a clue I chose to ignore when I watched Badlands on ATV+. Caveat emptor.

Thanks, that explains a lot regarding my reaction to the film.

    Apple TV+ Terence Malick's Badlands on ATV+?

Thanks for the info. I did check those comparisons, that's what sent me down this rabbit hole. The DVD upscaled looked terrible. The ATV+ has a similar color palette & contrast as the DVD without artifacts, so I can believe it's from the HD version of the DVD transfer. According to Amz UK the...

    Apple TV+ Terence Malick's Badlands on ATV+?

I'm interested in your comments. Have you compared the picture quality of the Criterion vs Warner's streaming version?

    Apple TV+ Terence Malick's Badlands on ATV+?

The ATV+ streaming version is OK but not superb. It's better than upscaled DVD but suffers from softness & low contrast. I assume a higher bit rate would have improved it. If you're a fan of the movie the Criterion Blu-ray would be a much better bet.

    Apple TV+ Terence Malick's Badlands on ATV+?

It appears the ATV+ Badlands is most likely the 2017 transfer used for European Blu-ray releases, inc a Premium UK set, because of the multiple languages shown at ATV+. The transfer should be superb, I'll report back.

General Discussion The Stranger (1946) Olive version streaming?

ATV+ online only shows Filmchest. The ATV+ app on my LG TV shows multiple versions in the How To Watch section. Out of curiosity I'll rent the MGM to see how it compares with my DVD. Thanks!

General Discussion The Stranger (1946) Olive version streaming?

Thanks for the reply. Generally ad-free means spending money. It's more important that it's the Olive transfer.

General Discussion The Stranger (1946) Olive version streaming?

I have the MGM DVD. Does anyone know if the Olive HD version, that uses the MGM print, is available from any of the ad-free streaming sources? Thanks, Trevor.

    Apple TV+ Terence Malick's Badlands on ATV+?

I have the Warner DVD of Badlands & it's looking long-in-the-tooth. The ATV+ HD version is sourced from Warner (not Criterion), does anyone know the provenance of the transfer or alternately can comment on the streaming picture quality? Thanks, Trevor.

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - Once Upon a Time in the West -- in 4k UHD

I realize Prime is suboptimal, I initially thought I was getting 4K (whopee!) but no. I assume the Scorcese / Film Foundation reference during the credits means it's the latest transfer? Please let us know what you think about the transfer.

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - Once Upon a Time in the West -- in 4k UHD

Please skip this comment if you don't like negative film reviews. I enjoyed the Dollars trilogy, TGTB&TU & westerns in general. I bought the DVD of OUTITW when it was released & watched it once (my first time seeing OUTITW), I was disappointed. It's an exercise in style over substance. It has...

    Blu-ray Review Devil’s Doorway (1950) Blu-ray Review

This is my first time seeing Devil's Doorway. It has received universal praise, it's an excellent western. Audiences in 1950 must have found John Alton's noir photography to be a little strange in a western but it works well. The Blu-ray print/transfer is bright, if you view in a darkened room I...

The Day Of The Triffids (1981, BBC) on Blu-ray......

The Blu-ray of the 1981 mini series looks excellent in comparison with the previous DVD. I believe I saw the 1960's movie on TV 30+ years ago & was unimpressed. The 2009 mini series is fun but difficult to find streaming & expensive on Blu-ray.
