The Disclaimer

Standard disclaimer: All prices are taken from the websites of each chain, or from their printed Sunday advertisements. All prices are subject to change by each chain. Prices and inventory in-store may or may not match the website price.

I, obviously, cannot include EVERY title released in a given week in the RoundUp. The titles included are those that I am interested in…as well as those which I consider will be of interest to a majority of consumers (and sometimes I’ll miss one!). I don’t get paid for this, and I don’t have the time to list every DVD. So, please don’t complain! If there is a title not included in the RoundUp that you want to see, PLEASE just look it up yourself, and be nice enough to post and share the results with everyone!

We are poised ready to enter the month of March--always a time when new home video releases start to ratchet up. And that's true in 2021.

But we have this one week in February left. And thanks to the Warner Archive, Criterion, Kino and some of the other distributors, things start to pick up this week and will only get busier.

Safe shopping everyone!

That poster for On Moonlight Bay reads as a very different sales pitch in 2020...

You mean 2021? We put the miserable year 2020 behind us a while back. ;)

As always, thank you for your work, Mike! I'm getting a new title listed in the Roundup, but in a different variant than you listed.

I enjoyed the original Croods movie in theaters (remember those?) all the way back in 2013 when it came out, but for some reason I don't quite remember I never got around to picking up the Blu-ray. Due to the pandemic, I haven't seen the sequel yet. Although it has been available as a PVOD rental, I don't want to pay $19.99 for a limited viewing period. I have no problem paying for it, but at that price level it has to be something that I can keep. The sequel will be a blind buy and I am looking forward to seeing it. I would have seen it theatrically in any other circumstance besides a global health crisis.

So I have pre-ordered the Blu-ray 2-pack of The Croods and its sequel. Although it is not in the grid, Amazon is selling it for $27.99. Because I've gotten some credits and gift cards as apologies for Amazon messing up some recent orders, I have the price of my copy down to $17.99. It omits the DVD copy of the sequel found in the standalone release combo pack, but that's fine because I wouldn't use the DVD anyway. The only drawback is that, as is often the care with these kinds of sets, the cover artwork isn't as dynamic as on the single release of the new movie. But the price is too good to pass up. if anyone else is also looking to get both Croods movies, it's definitely cheaper than buying both of them separately.

Universal is releasing the 2-pack on both Blu-ray and DVD (separately) but not on 4K, so if you are looking for 4K copies you'll need to get them elsewhere.

just a note - Deep Discount has a 15% off sale thru Thursday 2/18 noon CT.

The John Hughes is listed at $18.49, so with the discount it is $15.72 (pre-tax or shipping).

A bit of a heads up -- maybe be watching Monday night or Tuesday morning for a possible Criterion.com Flash Sale starting noon ET Tuesday (2/23). There's no guarantee, there's no advance notice (typical), but 4th Tues in February is by far the most common date and with 3 releases on Tuesday it fits their pattern.

The last several sales they've let a notice out the night before between 6-9 pm ET usually through Social Media or more commonly word of mouth from some of the Forum members with inside access. Emails sometimes get sent out mid morning on Tuesday, but it's not unheard of for things to come completely unannounced.

I noticed Wal-Mart is taking pre-orders on an unusual exclusive for The Croods: A New Age. Their edition will come with the regular Blu-ray plus a water bottle and a 25 piece puzzle which looks to match the cover art for $24.96.

I'm still sticking with my pre-order of the 2-pack with the original, but this is another option for anyone who only needs the sequel.

Back in the day, I would wait 3-6 months and pick up the set at WM for less than the current price of the Disc(s) alone - especially classic Disknee movies ...

you mean The Croods: A New Age isn't a Criterion release?

According to Criterion's website, "Since 1984, the Criterion Collection has been dedicated to publishing important classic and contemporary films from around the world."

Whether or not a box office statistic qualifies as "important," the movie did do something highly unusual this past weekend in returning to the top spot at the box office in its 12th weekend (Seriously.) ;)

Amazon is now shipping Croods discs (I got my shipping confirmation for the 2-pack.). I noticed that the 3D version never dropped from the $39.99 price tag. It is nice that it is available for anyone who wants it, but they're asking you to pay a pretty significant premium over any other edition of the movie.

The Blu-ray+DVD combo is $22.96, the 2-pack with Blu-rays of both films is $27.96 and the 4K of just the sequel is also $27.96. So 3D is being priced $17.03 higher than the regular Blu-ray.

I wonder how many people will actually take them up on that price point for a 3D copy.
