Sony introduces budget 2.1 soundbar system

Sony has announced April availability of the HT-S400 2.1-channel soundbar with included wireless subwoofer, slated to retail for $299.99. The new product promises to deliver a “powerful audio experience” with S-Force PRO Front Surround tech onboard, clear dialogue features and a 330W power output.

“Delivering a powerful cinematic experience is a core goal when developing any of our home audio products, and the HT-S400 is no exception,” said Tyler Ishida, President of Consumer Business Group, Sony Electronics Inc. “This compact and easy-to-use soundbar includes many of Sony’s customer-loved audio features but at a more accessible price point.”

As well as Dolby Digital combined with Sony’s own S-Force PRO Front Surround tech, the company says the HT-S400 can emulate cinema-style immersive audio. The front speakers include a rectangular-shaped ‘X-balanced speaker unit’, which maximizes diaphragm action and reduces distortion. The soundbar also comes with a wireless subwoofer with 160mm speaker unit for a deeper, richer bass sound.

The HT-S400 can be connected to a Sony BRAVIA TV via an integrated user interface. Its settings automatically appear on the TV’s menu for control of audio and volume with BRAVIA’s remote control. A voice mode enables clearer dialogue and a night mode can be used for late night viewing. Sony says its products are designed with the environment and sustainability in mind, and the HT-S400 also comprises recycled materials.
