Denon announces new sound bar with onboard subwoofers

Denon has launched the DHT-S217 full-range Dolby Atmos sound bar with two in-built subwoofers, priced at $249 and available in May. Promising high-clarity dialogue and authoritative bass response, the new sound bar incorporates Dolby Atmos audio for immersive soundfield recreation. (We reviewed the former DHT-S216 product in 2020.)

“If you’re looking to vastly improve your TV’s built-in audio, look no further than our DHT-S217 sound bar,” said Trip Randall, Denon brand President. “The DHT-S217 transforms any TV into a complete home entertainment system thanks to its built-in subwoofers that pack a deep punch and powerful 3D surround sound, all at an accessible price point.”

Its slimline credentials mean placement flexibility in front of a TV and the unit can also be wall mounted. Both the subwoofers are down-firing and match the “high-performance” midrange drivers and tweeters. Streamed music can also be controlled from a smartphone or tablet via Bluetooth. Denon thoughtfully includes an HDMI and optical cable in the package and eARC connectivity enables sound bar control with a TV’s remote and streamed music from TV-based apps.

There are four sound modes, Movie, Night, Music and Pure, the latter of which by-passes surround processing and other adjusted characteristics for the best listening experience. Denon’s own dialog enhancer can be used for late night viewing or content where comprehension is paramount. The sound bar also supports level adjustment without affecting overall program volume. The DHT-S217 will be available from Denon and authorized resellers. For more information, click here.
