UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - Eternals -- in 4k UHD

I loved it, but I completely understand why some people don't. When my review of it went live, I got a little bit of flack on social media for the fact that I enjoyed it, which is something that I've never understood. Why on earth would you give someone a hard time for liking anything...

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - Eternals -- in 4k UHD

I'm sure that deafness not being a considered a defect was part of it. The origin of both the Eternals and the Deviants is quite different in the movie than it was in the books, especially Kirby's. There, they live apart from mankind in Olympia and Lemuria, but the film makes the point at the...

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - Eternals -- in 4k UHD

In the Kirby run of the comics, Sersi was brazenly sexual, obsessed with men. Druig was wildly different, too. In fact, the onscreen versions of most Marvel characters vary from their comic book counterparts. Thor's alter ego Donald Blake is MIA in the MCU. Never mind what they did with The...

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - Eternals -- in 4k UHD

The Disney+ version is still dark, but it does seem just a tad brighter than the HDR grade on the UHD -- with the caveat that the shifting aspect ratios makes that a little difficult to judge, as more image area naturally seems brighter. It still seems like there might be a little more dynamic...

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - Eternals -- in 4k UHD

Agreed. I was focusing on the question regarding the darkness of the HDR grade on the UHD.

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - Eternals -- in 4k UHD

If no one else answers that, I'll check when I get home this afternoon. Since I always watch movies via disc instead of streaming, sometimes I forget that I have Disney+ because it came with my Verizon deal. I'll take a three-way gander between that, the UHD, and the Blu-ray.

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - Eternals -- in 4k UHD

I just put the Blu-ray in to compare on my projector, and it's definitely less dark than the HDR grade on the UHD, even with my tone mapping level set to high.

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - Eternals -- in 4k UHD

It's above average for Disney. Still mastered at too low of a level, but it has some dynamic impact with the volume tuned up, and deeper bass than any other Disney/Marvel title in recent memory.

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - Eternals -- in 4k UHD

I wouldn't exactly call myself a fanboy, but I've enjoyed all of them to varying degrees, and loved quite a few of them. On my last run through the series, I even had to admit that Iron Man 2, Thor: The Dark World, and The Incredible Hulk were hardly as bad as I had previously thought. They're...

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - Eternals -- in 4k UHD

I didn't try comparing the 2D Blu-ray to the UHD on the same display, but when I put the Blu-ray into my laptop to take a few screenshots, it doesn't seem as dark as the UHD. So the HDR grade on the UHD doesn't necessarily mean that the 3D Blu-ray will be unwatchable. That said, it's still...

UHD Review A Few Words About A few words about...™ - Eternals -- in 4k UHD

The HDR grade on the UHD is significantly darker than the film looked theatrically. It was never particularly bright and vibrant, by design, but the UHD turns it down again. I usually chalk up complaints about dark UHDs to tone mapping issues, but in this case, even after setting the Theatre...
