The new firmware is even more complicated than meets the eye. There are actually three levels to adjust the mapping while still using the Optimizer, not just the five adjustments when you do not. So those darker discs like the Disney ones still work with the Optimizer but you just need to set...
It is a major project, no two ways about it. I would have tried to have installing it coincide with a new calibration, but I am far enough along with the life cycle on my lamp that I would rather save the money until I replace it. But re-entering the old one was pretty tedious, especially...
I finally pulled the trigger and installed the 3.50 firmware yesterday. I like waiting a couple of months to see if anyone reports bug, and this one is definitely a commitment since it resets any calibration. I still had a spreadsheet with all of my settings, of course, but that took a little...
For what it is worth, the rated contrast doubles from the NX5 to the NX7, then only goes up 25% from the NX7 to the NX9. However much that may mean in real world conditions, it was still enough for me to justify spending the extra $2000 on my RS2000/NX7. The glass, as wonderful as it is, was...
At leas according to What Hi*Fi?, it looks like the new firmware may not be so much an improvement of the tone mapping algorithms as it is increasing the data set that the projector uses by allowing the user to input screen size, gain, and presumably throw distance. It also increases the number...
Waiting a bit is always good advice with firmware. There are plenty of people who are more than willing to be guinea pigs. When JVC released the 3.10 firmware, as eager as I was to try out the new adaptive tone mapping, I waited a few weeks and kept tabs on forum threads to see if anyone had...
I have always used thumb drives for firmware updates anyway for just that reason. As it is, I am paranoid about a power failure. The update to 3.10 went swimmingly, but I always sweat bullets until it is over -- the more expensive the hardware, the more painful the bricking can be!
Agreed -- but that lens is nothing to sneeze at! But I am really mostly interested in your experiences with the projector series in general -- the frame adaptive HDR in particular.
As long as you keep sharing updates on your experiences with the JVC! I admit that I am biased but having lived with my RS2000 for more than a year now, I enjoy reading about what your much more practiced eye sees with the 3000.
Glad that you finally made the leap. I have the RS2000 (NX7) for more than a year now, and while I would dearly love the lens that you ended up with, it is still an amazing series of projectors at any level. The midpoint was the sweet spot for my budget. I have had it long enough to have...
