Pure direct turns off the video circuity for a supposedly better audio sound as well as defeating DSP processing. i can't comment on the sound quality difference between the two but, if what i read is true, there is a noticeably improved amp section in that 2600. It should be quite an improvement.

I just pulled the trigger and got the 3806 but then I read in Sound and Vision that between it, the 2600, and an Integra they liked the Yamaha due to its better remote and HDMI switching capabilities. They did like the 3806 but hated the remote and wished it had better HDMI switching. I hate it...
