I think we can change the title to: The b&w era of TV on DVD is really dead.
Fortunately we can see many episodes of vintage TV series on YouTube (far from being good quality recording but...), adventures series like: Adventures in Paradise, Hong Kong, San Francisco Beat, I Led 3 Lives, The Man...
If I remember correctly, I've read somewhere that Bob Cummings was kind of a Prima Dona but I'll be in line for his two TV shows: My Hero and also Love that Bob.
Maybe we'll see the completion of these three B&W TV shows this year:- Steve Canyon (volume 3 - the last episodes of this one season TV show)- I'm Dickens, he's Fenster (second (of 2)volume of this one season sitcom)- My Living Doll (second (of 2) volume of this one season sitcom)... And maybe...
I'd prefer to see uncompleted TV series being completed (Sgt Bilko, Burke's Law, Mister Ed,...) or unreleased TV series being released (Richard Diamond, Boston Blackie, The Thin Man,...) than having releases of things already released.
The main problem with TGG Direct is the lack of communications. Their website is a generic one with nothing more than generic informations. It seems really hard to have any kind of informations about their future releases.
We can only hope that TGG will be back very soon with more ZIV TV series like they've done in the past before their last release, the color sitcom My Mother the Car.
Yes, 2014 might be the worst year yet for b/w releases and one of the reason for this is the fact that two companies are now really quiet compare to what they used to be.- TMG (Timeless Media Group) is not the same company they used to be before the buyout by Shout, in fact TMG is almost dead.-...
I hope that the remaining three seasons of Sgt Bilko will be released (without a doubt, one of the best sitcom of all time) and I sure might be interested in Tightrope, Trackdown and Adventures of Paradise too. And also those 4 Warners Detective series: Bourbon Street Beat, 77 Sunset Strip...
As for me, IT'S ABOUT TIME isn't that bad, I found out the later épisodes are dull because it was kinda like The Beverly Hillbillies (adaptation to a modern setting). I prefer the early épisodes with the prehistorical setting. MY MOTHER THE CAR is another sitcom that isn't bad as far as I'm...
For me, watching vintage TV shows (50's, 60's and 70's) means a way to escape (for brief moments) some of the modern things that bugs me. Call me a dreamer but it's good to see children or teenagers showing respect to their parents, people talking and having fun in a restaurant instead of doing...
Gary OS, too bad about Sgt Bilko S2. Your crystal ball had a very good percentage of prédictions, unfortunately Sgt Bilko S2 was in the didn't happen section
Gary OS, on your list you forgot one of the funniest, most popular sitcom of the 50's, Sgt Bilko (aka The Phil Silvers Show). A real shame that CBS HE released only the first of 4 seasons. Why not licensing it.
All of Timeless Media Group coming TV series (except those tin set) are westerns. How about more crime / drama like those releases from last year: Peter Gunn and Mr Lucky, some titles like:Dante (w/ Howard Duff), Richard Diamond (w/ David Janssen), China Smith (w/ Dan Duryea), Johnny Midnight...
I can see that the four coming sets of DVD from Timeless are all western. I hope they will release more crime/drama like they just did with Peter Gunn and Mr Lucky. How about TV series like: Dante (w/ Howard Duff), Richard Diamond (w/ David Janssen), China Smith (w/ Dan Duryea), Johnny Midnight...
Where's Gary OS and Neil Brock? It's been more than 3 weeks since we've heard from them. Maybe that cristal ball can gave us some clues on future vintage TV releases
I'm also a "proud member of the B/W TV on DVD 'pack' here at HTF" (can't wait for Mr Lucky, Peter Gunn and Yancy Derringer) and I even consider many B/W TV series released by Alpha Video as an important part of my DVD collection (ex. Decoy, Ramar of the Jungle, Sheena Queen of the Jungle, ...)
Gary, that's very interesting news but can you give us more information. I remember a long time ago you gave us some hints on future TV series and I was lucky to guess yancy derringer and Mr Lucky so what about more info
Here's some B&W titles I'd like to see released
For the Crime/Drama genre there's: Dante (w/ Howard Duff), Richard Diamond (w/ David Janssen), China Smith (w/ Dan Duryea), Johnny Midnight (w/ Edmond O'Brien), New Adventures of Charlie Chan (w/ J. Carrol Naish), Boston Blackie (w/ Kent Taylor)...
I hope that, with this merger, Timeless will release more non-western TV series from the 50's and 60's, titles like:
Crime/Drama genre:
Dante (w/ Howard Duff),
Mr. Lucky (w John Vivyan),
Richard Diamond (w/ David Janssen),
China Smith (w/ Dan Duryea),
Johnny Midnight (w/ Edmond O'Brien)...
