How do you explain your love of physical media in an era of streaming?

That's fair, and pretty common from other posts in this thread. In my case, I like watching a movie with friends or family but being in a theater with a bunch of strangers doesn't really enhance the experience for me at all - and usually detracts from it (people talking during dialogue, kids...

How do you explain your love of physical media in an era of streaming?

I know this wasn't a response to me, but just curious to see where we're all at on this specific angle. in my case I'm probably 80% physical, 20% streaming 0% digital. I stream things to check them out but haven't wanted to 'buy' a digital copy of anything due to the aforementioned concerns...

How do you explain your love of physical media in an era of streaming?

I'm nearing that boat. 4K HDR or bust! I've had to accept a few titles in plebian 1080p but am holding out for others to receive a proper 4k HDR reissue.

How do you explain your love of physical media in an era of streaming?

Nothing happened in the movie theaters - my home theater just improved to the point where there's no more benefit for me to going into a cinema theater full of sick people, people who talk the whole time, little kids crying, etc. My seats are more comfortable (and almost certainly more...

How do you explain your love of physical media in an era of streaming?

That's a good point John. Perhaps I grew up in a strange place (was a kid through all the 90's) but large VHS collections were pretty common as I recall. My dad's was on the smaller end of things but he still had probably 20-30 tapes of 'his' movies and about as many of kid stuff for me...

How do you explain your love of physical media in an era of streaming?

my OP? I'm probably the least interested in politics person you'll ever meet, John. Though I'm not always successful at getting my point across, I do always try to be as plain and clear in communication as I can be - this thread is no different. Just genuine curiosity about how we all...

How do you explain your love of physical media in an era of streaming?

That linked thread is one I started - if you dig into it we discussed exactly those points you mentioned here (advocating for buying physical media, importance of buying discs and why it is so). That thread grew surprisingly quickly but if you read through it, we absolutely have been discussing...

How do you explain your love of physical media in an era of streaming?

For sure - I'm not just a fan of having to do that. If the screen is too large to the point where the viewer can't really keep their gaze roughly around the center of the screen and still reasonably see what's going on, it's too big for my preference.

How do you explain your love of physical media in an era of streaming?

Can't speak for anyone else, but for me screen size is irrelevant beyond the point where you'd need to be turning your head to see the action. In my case, screen size ideally is relative to seating distance and I prefer the screen to take up enough of my field of vision that I can comfortably...

How do you explain your love of physical media in an era of streaming?

You know what's funny... the better my home theater becomes, the less I want to actually go to a regular cinema theater because my setup is 'better'. Higher picture quality, clearer and more identifiably-discrete sound, my seats have a power-adjustable headrest and the final nail in the coffin...

How do you explain your love of physical media in an era of streaming?

a fair and possibly factual view. I think the emotional component "I enjoy it" has to be a part of any hobby for sure, but not mutually exclusive with logical reasons as well - along the lines of control of content, ability to watch things which are not or might no longer be streamable, higher...

How do you explain your love of physical media in an era of streaming?

wouldn't ripping the blu rays to PC also work? If the medium itself is no longer part of the equation but the data is kept, that seems like a win. An expensive win, but a win nonetheless.

How do you explain your love of physical media in an era of streaming?

Definitely makes sense. I've used Amazon quite a bit for streaming to test out titles that I haven't seen before (if I end up enjoying them enough they inevitably make their way into my physical collection). Never intended on streaming as a reason to pay for Prime but since I already have it I...

All the more reason for a personal 4k backup Plex server at home

How do you explain your love of physical media in an era of streaming?

thanks for all your 'rants' Very interesting to see the wide variety of takes we all have on this. In my case, you uncovered another reason I really prefer to have a physical disc of movies/tv that I want to rewatch in the future is the data space. Although longer-term I plan to set...

How do you explain your love of physical media in an era of streaming?

I have several UPS around the house that keep the network bits and anything in the man cave powered for a few hours. There have been times when the local municipal power is out which kills the ISP's main routers, but I get your point :) Definitely agree that both have their place - it's kind of...

How do you explain your love of physical media in an era of streaming?

I'm noticing that friends and family increasingly think I'm nuts for being so interested in having a decent home theater setup and collecting movies, tv etc in whatever highest possible disc format they can be had in which got me wondering how do you guys explain it? In my case, I have always...
