^ Agreed! No matter how much he changes the original trilogy, they just won't ever mesh with the prequels seamlessly. The characters & story were the main draw in the original films. In the new ones I'd have a hard time even describing the characters or story in depth compared to Han, Luke, Leia...

That's very true - I don't believe there's going to be a DVD edition of this new set either, so people without bluray will have to watch these sub-par transfers still...

It was, and it's an answer I don't buy from him. The surrounds for the foreign language versions on the same DVD weren't reversed... And even it was a product of the surround process, the rear channels could easily have been switched to make them correct before the product was released!

According to Matthew Wood, the flipped surrounds weren't an error (rrrrighttttt! Would it have been difficult to just flip them after using their process to create the surrounds, even if it was a side effect of the process he mentions below? I fail to see how Lucasfilm could not simply reverse...

I wonder if they've fixed the typo on this part of the bluray yet...

I know - somewhat depressing isn't it when you consider that far lesser films get treated much better... I am also tired of hearing the argument, "but they're HIS films, he can do what he likes with them". Wrong! They may be HIS films legally, but MANY people gave their best to get these films...

And that sums up my feelings as to why George Lucas ISN'T a good director any longer: "There is never enough time or money to make a film exactly the way you want it." George Lucas has FAR more money, and control then most to get his vision onto the big screen. I don't see anyone else tinkering...
