Classic TV show you should be into/couldn’t get into

The ST:TOS daily reruns on various basic cable channels I watch, seems to be mostly the redone special effects with the screen delibrately tilt-n-scan cropped to 16:9. IIRC, this particular redone fx + 16:9 cropped mutant variant of ST:TOS was actually listed in the cbs syndication bible...

One show where the same thing happened for me, was when I revisted Airwolf.

One cartoon I vaguely remember which seemed superficial on the surface, was Jem and The Holograms. Basically a cartoon about a girl rock band without any "debauchery". I found the dvd set in a local dump bin and picked it up as an impulse buy. Watching through the dvds, I realized it was...

Classic TV show you should be into/couldn’t get into

When I was younger, the biggest reason why I wasn't into night time serialized dramas was that there were no explosions, car chases, etc ... every week. They were not the type of shows I would have watched on my own back then. The only reason I ever watched stuff like Dallas, Dynasty, etc ...

I think the same can be said of the original Battlestar Galactica. The only reason I really liked watching this show, was that it was the first non-cartoon show I latched onto when I was a kid/preteen. (Buck Rogers didn't do this for me). In an alternate universe where I had never seen...

I thought the Stargate SG1/Atlantis/Universe franchise did a better job at depicting life/societies on other worlds. (Even if many of them are scifi replicas of past societies on earth).

I felt the same about Dukes of Hazzard. When I was a preteen, I thought it was just a generic action show with silly car stunts. As I got older and watched reruns, I came to the realization it was actually a covert satire about political corruption.

Nevertheless the only MI seasons which had any rewatch value for me, were seasons 4-5 with Leonard Nimoy.

The first time I saw Dr. Strangelove, I thought it was a satire on Edward Teller. (Teller was the father of the hydrogen bomb and was a pariah after he testified against J Robert Oppenheimer during the McCarthy witch hunts).

(Some more "blasphemy"). I also found the original Mission Impossible also kinda repetitive and kinda boring as the seasons wore on. For reasons I don't quite understand, I found I liked watching the late-1980s revived Mission Impossible a lot more.

This may sound like "blasphemy" to sci-fi purists. For reasons I don't quite understand, I found I liked watching the revived 1990s era Outer Limits. In contrast, I found the original 1960s Outer Limits difficult to watch.
