Back in the day, I knew of folks who would not believe the technical measurements for anything which contradicted what they believed (or wanted to believe). Some didn't even believe in doing blind testing.

The odd part was that some of these...

Though on the other side of the coin, most people have to have something to believe in. Whether it is expensive speaker / hdmi cables, star wars, star trek, sports teams, certain musical bands, certain movies + tv shows, etc ....

Ever since stereo magazines stopped publishing technical measurement details, they're not much more than "cheerleading". Basically reading a 100+ page opinion piece or op-ed.
It goes to show that people are willing to pay $$$ to read something they want to believe or already...

I always saw "gold" cables, "gold" audio cd discs, etc ... as a pseudo "status symbol"
Basically it is a good "signaling" mechanism to point out who actually understands technical engineering type stuff + double blind testing, and/or who doesn't understand how...
