The green wash is so not right. What's also interesting is that the 2002 DVD is similar in sharpness to the 2020 Blu - weird. Maybe it's just the lesser quality.
I really don't recall anyone attacking anyone. Certainly when you were thumbs-downing every post I made I was very clear that I hadn't seen the disc yet and therefore could not comment on it, only that I was distrustful of sites I have no history with where the writing was so bad that I...
This is one of the problems with screen caps - they'll post something that isn't accurate to the sequence, one frame of a moving shot, for example, or where someone's head gets cropped a bit too much but the shot is a moving shot and in motion you don't even notice it because that's the way it...
I've said from day one that the color is more accurate to the IB prints than the washed in green previous Blu-ray. But the softness is plain weird to me. But having a dye transfer print is only useful if you are looking at it with something that resembles a carbon arc light source, which is...
Correct - I keep reading words like "smeary" and "waxy mess" and it isn't that. It's had work done on it, yes, and that work is poor - it's just soft and it shouldn't be and there's no real reason for it.
Well, it continues to be fascinating, doesn't it. As I have said since I first wrote about seeing this, I felt and feel the color in this new Blu-ray is very close to the IB prints I owned. So, the fact that they had some IB reference prints should put the color thing to bed. I can only tell...
They couldn't use them because they didn't have them. I think that would be the answer :) I mean, obviously they existed because WE used them, but Paramount does not own the film so someone would have had to figure out what was where and pick up a phone.
Having looked at the caps, I only one that I would take issue with is the costume ball - on the cap of the new disc there's no purple on one of the costumes but there certainly is on the disc. So, that's weird but caps are weird. As to the rest, yes, as we've all said, it's a bit of a botch...
I watched the previous Blu-ray and it comes off as silver and I'm not the only one who was noticed. If it's coming off as blue perhaps it's your color settings or something. It's BLUE in the new transfer.
All right then, I've just finished watching It Started in Naples - oh, wait - this is the To Catch a Thief thread :) Whew. So, just finished watching the new Blu of To Catch a Thief and here are my thoughts for whatever they're worth. I think I'll give myself a thumbs down before my thumbs...
Absolutely right. And yet people think huge grain is what film is all about. Go know. And I'm really glad about the sharpness - if you visit the other thread you will see the smeary mess comments. They're even worse at the other jernt.
I am completely baffled by this post. I have been VERY clear in every single post that I did not have this disc and therefore could not comment on it. What I can do and will do is respond to posts that are wrong, in terms of color and framing. I don't think I was rude to you in any post...
Glad you chimed in - I'll have it on Friday. Considering that some here have been calling this a "smeary mess" - is it? Is there so much DNR (if any) that it has lost all detail? Also, as I said in the other thread, I've owned at least five IB prints - none of the night scenes have ever...
