Unfortunately, the cynic in me says that it won't matter one whit to Disney how much backlash there is or how many customers complain. They're going to do whatever the hell they want, regardless. This is the way.
iTunes downloads max out at 1080p, so if you have a lot of 4K titles that's not a very viable strategy, unless you don't mind downrezzing those purchases in order to have local copies.

I agree on all counts. Just started watching the Western Noir titles today myself, kicking it off with The Walking Hills because, well, Ella Raines, Randolph Scott, and Death Valley before it became a National Park (it was a National Monument at the time of filming).
I *love* Plex! I use it to stream my ripped Blu-ray library and broadcast TV throughout the house and to remote devices when I'm not home. I think it's a great streaming media platform.
I'd be very surprised if the ATV4K sees a refresh in 2019. In Apple Years it's a very new device. I'd say if you want one now, buy it Peter. Best streaming box I've ever owned.
