Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)

Having seen the original Avatar in IMAX 3D I can only imagine, but that ship has sailed in my area. At least the D+ presentation is "IMAX Enhanced."

Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)

We watched this for the first time last night via D+. A technical achievement to be sure, I found it to be pretty much a complete retread of the first film. Cameron's simplistic storytelling and dialogue were painfully obvious, and there were a number of groan-worthy lines peppered throughout. I...

Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)

I tend to agree. The first film was a bit like Star Wars in that, technologically speaking, it was something new that people had never experienced before. That wow factor drew in a LOT of business and a lot of REPEAT business. While the sequel has its own technological advances, they're more a...

It's easy enough to pop the Avatar Blu-ray into my player and watch the movie before seeing the second film. We've had plenty of advance warning. ;) I really don't want to sit through a synopsis of the first film at the beginning of a 3-hour and 10-minute-long sequel.

You're right, Sean! I totally missed the tattoo! Thanks for pointing it out. However, that face certainly does look a LOT like Sully's avatar. I wonder if Quaritch somehow managed to steal a "spare" Sully? That wouldn't explain the tattoo, however, unless he did it after he transferred. Then, of...

Yeah, it was an interesting 29 minutes. Two very different but similar filmmakers. Thanks for posting it, Chuck.

I just hope it gets a theatrical release. There is simply no way that films like these will have the same impact at home on first viewing as they would on a huge theater screen with a huge sound system.

At this point I'd even be happy with streaming versions that I could purchase, Josh. If that work has already been done, why not put them out for sale? There are tons of films of this age that are available both for digital purchase and shown on subscription streaming services. It's not like...

Avatar: The Way of Water (2022)

You can rationalize Cameron's lack of interest in these two films as much as you'd like IMO. It would take MINIMAL effort on his part to get this done. I'll again point out the fact that the state they're in now - ancient, low quality releases - is far worse than anything even an automated...

I seriously doubt it. I don't believe for one minute that "I don't have the time" is the real reason Cameron hasn't facilitated the release of these two films.

I'm just very skeptical about these Avatar sequels. Firstly, as has been mentioned, it will have been over a DECADE since the original film when the first sequel is released. I think interest has waned. Secondly, they're dumping a lot of money into one basket with FIVE films in the oven. If...

I don't know if I'd equate the popularity of a theme park ride with people still caring about a film. Plus, don't most of the "big" rides at Disney have long lines anyway?

They've wrapped principal photography, which means there are probably still pickups to do, and then 5-200,000 years of post-production and CGI work. ;)
