I have the 1996 laserdisc box of the Anthology, which has PCM stereo audio only. The 2003 DVD box added a disc of extras and 5.1 surround audio mixes for the music in the episodes, so they've already upgraded once for an improved video format. Given the quality of the new "Beatles 1" video set...
I guess we'll just have to see what if anything Jeff Lynne does to "Free As A Bird" or "Real Love" for this Blu-Ray. At the time, I thought his involvement with those recordings was more as an expert facilitator than a producer. I actually have faith in the Apple/Giles Martin brain trust on...
You and me both. The Beatles were back, no question. I also want to say that if someone had asked me which Beatles Blu-Ray I'd most like to have next, and the choices were this video collection, the Beatles Anthology, or Let It Be, this video collection would have been it. I can't wait!
I agree with all of that, but the version of "I Am The Walrus" on "Love" isn't tricky or combined with snippets of other Beatles songs; it's just a perfectly balanced 5.1 mix of a song notorious for always having a problematic stereo mix (the true stereo becoming electronically rechannelled...
The second Blu-Ray has the "Free As A Bird" and "Real Love" videos from the 90's "Threeatles" reunion for the Anthology CD and video. I think that the "Free As A Bird" video in particular is a genuine work of Beatles art, and should be a great treat on Blu-Ray, essential even.
I bought the mono "Sgt. Pepper" LP back in 1967 for two reasons; the cover looked better without that ugly yellow "STEREO" stripe at the top, and I didn't have a stereo. So the mix on the mono "Sgt. Pepper" is ingrained in my Beatlemaniac brain over decades, and it is the only mix that is the...
Are you sure about that? I have that outstanding "Magical Mystery Tour" Blu-Ray (and the DVD and the laserdisc and the "Magical Mystery Tour Memories" DVD) and I'm in Vancouver.
As a total Beatlemaniac, I think that this Blu-Ray collection of restored, revamped Beatles videos with new uncompressed 5.1 audio mixes is a dream come true. As a Beatles purist, I think that anything but original Beatles-approved mono (and for "Abbey Road" and "Let It Be", stereo) audio mixes...
I think the 5.1 mixes on the DVD of the Anthology point to Apple's ability to preserve the original live vocals on those two tracks, while still providing good-sounding "new" audio. Considering that I saw the 1968 TV broadcast of these two videos on "The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour" on a...
The first two LP's I ever bought were "Beatlemania With The Beatles" and "Twist And Shout", the first two Canadian Beatles LP's, on the same day in 1964. With all the talk lately about Blu-Ray being on the way out, I just thought I'd mention the ancient, obsolete vinyl record format. I mean...
There's an interesting tone to the posts so far on this thread; thrilled, but dazed. These are good, solid, thoughtful comments from Beatlemaniacs who are wondering "am I dreaming or is this actually happening?". That's definitely where I'm coming from, anyhow.
The Apple Blu-Ray audio standard for their Beatles releases has been PCM stereo, with DTS-HD and Dolby Digital 5.1 tracks, to cover most home theatre set-ups from basic to high-end. I'll probably watch these new videos with the surround audio, as the 5.1 mixes of the Beatles songs on the Beatles...
There's a restoration demo on the Apple website, so you can see for yourself. As a lifelong Beatlemaniac, this release - and I do mean the 2 Blu-Ray package which I wouldn't miss for the world, Mike! - is a dream come true.
