I also agree that Grant's performance was over the top -VERY over the top. It ruined the film for me. The blame lies with the Director who should have noticed Grant's performance.

A pity that the DEATH IN VENICE bluray quality didn't match the usual standards that we are used to with Criterion releases. The opening looked very grainy. One of the extras had unreadable subtitles-white subtitles against a white (snow) background.

The recent WAR AND PEACE television series was longer than 7 hours and it was up there with the best of the best in TV shows in 2018.There was not a boring moment in the entire series.Unmissable .

They did the same with IRMA LA DOUCE.Maybe that is why IRMA and FANNY were very disappointing as films.

It was a huge hit in it's day. However there were too many scenes that were later proved to be faked. It was the same for the director's other similar documentaries. The Mondo Cane theme song was most memorable. Mondo Cane is Italian for 'dogs life'.

I disagree with you. Most of the Major American studios now have all their bluray/dvd releases as region/zone free discs. (Disney/Warner/MGM etc). Criterion can also make their discs region free-it is such a simple thing for them to do so. They should not have to pay more for a licence for...
