There has been no re-release of that disc in the US, nor any announcement from Warner. If they have pressed newer stock with the moth, they have kept it a secret.
The UK BD was released in May. A forum member from the UK confirmed (somewhere in this thread) that the moth is there. I can’t...
C’mon guys. “As per Variety…the outlet notes that some WB employees … believe that another company will buy the legacy studio within two years”
Not good news? This is not news at all, it’s click bait.
Agreed - especially as the corrected version has been available in Europe since May. And it's a region free disc! Not only that, but even though Warner has been selling the corrected discs in Europe for the past five months, Amazon US still has only the previous (defective) version. This is...
Any titles first released on blu-ray by Warner Home Video stay with WHV. WHV released Maltese Falcon on blu-ray over two years before Warner Archive released their first ever blu-ray.
WA had just started in 2009 for the manufacture on demand DVDs (burned) of previously unreleased titles...
This is a real problem these days, an unfortunate fad. There is an entire blog devoted to it. Let’s hope the attention this is now receiving will cause this fad to disappear like early Blu-ray’s grain scrubbing.
WA Blu-ray has generally done a pretty good job with audio, using a lighter hand...
Many old Warner titles, including WA titles, in iTunes sale today. Although HD, I’m not sure if they are the WA transfers. If I get time, I’ll rent one to compare.
Just listened again to check. I may have misunderstood. George may have been talking about remastering as opposed to re-scanning. As he was discussing how expensive it would be, I assumed that a remaster from an existing 4K scan would not be that expensive. I believe the phrased used was “now...
Thanks. Interesting listening. In part 2 George expressed great hope for a 4K North by Northwest, although it will require a new scan. Here’s hoping he’s got some inside knowledge.
Winchester 73 and Naked Spur would be great! Criterion channel had The Naked Spur streaming about a year ago. Unfortunately it was the worst transfer I can remember seeing in decades. Easily worse than a decent 16mm to VHS. I hope they can find some decent elements to work with.
Let’s hope so. I love the film. Keep the Image DVD in mind. If you ever come across a copy, grab it. It’s considerably better than the VCI. There is currently a Synergy Archive DVD available. It’s cheap, but I’ve no idea how it looks.
Thanks for that.
A caution for fans of the earlier version of this story (Rene Clair's "And Then There Were None" 1945). There is a Blu-ray available from 2013 (VCI), but it is a terrible transfer - far worse than the Image DVD from 2001. I bought this Blu from Amazon on its release and...
