70mm at the UA Cine. That's where I took my children to see El Cid, so that they could experience what I had had in my early years. A truly great roadshow experience. Probably the last generation to do so and that was by serendipity.
I saw El Cid on its original roadshow release. It was magnificent. The last time I saw it was also at the UA Cine in Dallas. I took my children to see it so that they could experience first hand the glory of a first-rate roadshow presentation in 70mm.
Milestone Films made 90 box sets available to the USA and Canada. I managed to get one. So far I have watched Pharaoh and Man of Iron. Both transfers were excellent and had English subtitles. I am looking forward to the other titles. The box set cost $169, no tax outside NY state, no shipping.
I, too, saw The Big Fisherman in 35mm during its original release. I was a lover of such epics as a child, but found this one to be a crashing bore. It deserves to be restored and seen by a new generation if only to assess a late Borzage work.
