    The Beatles: 1 (Blu-ray Audio/Video)

They're disappointed because they wanted Love style active rears. (That is a good term for it I think!)

    The Beatles: 1 (Blu-ray Audio/Video)

I think there is 25fps content on the disk... and 29.97... and 24... all mashed in together switching back and forth in short periods of time between videos. That's exactly the problem. Too many frame rates and too many changes of frame rates. I see no jitter on this disk at all. The frame...

    The Beatles: 1 (Blu-ray Audio/Video)

The frame rates are correct for all the various clips. That isn't the problem. The problem is that they switch frame rates too fast and don't allow a little space for the TV to recover.

    The Beatles: 1 (Blu-ray Audio/Video)

In 1080, blu-ray supports 29.97i (NTSC TV standard), 25i (PAL TV standard), 24p (Film standard) and 23.97p (Film standard drop frame). http://www.hughsnews.ca/faqs/authoritative-blu-ray-disc-bd-faq/4-physical-logical-and-application-specifications#4.6 I think the problem is when the 29.97i...

    The Beatles: 1 (Blu-ray Audio/Video)

The blu-ray standard supports 1080 playback of 23.97p, 24p, 25i, and 29.97i. I'm betting this disk is all over that map. Edit: Looked it up and corrected some i's. http://www.hughsnews.ca/faqs/authoritative-blu-ray-disc-bd-faq/4-physical-logical-and-application-specifications#4.6

I have the mono box and love it. But at that point, the choice was mono or ping pong. That decision is a no-brainer. But if you go back into the masters and start creating true stereo mixes that are well balanced, I might choose different. Beatles fans are among the most anal retentive folks...

    The Beatles: 1 (Blu-ray Audio/Video)

It's important to realize that many of these videos were recorded with canned playback of the backing track and live vocals... mixed together live on the fly to suit tiny speakers in a TV set. Syncing that up to the original studio masters, isolating the vocals and dealing with inevitable phase...

    The Beatles: 1 (Blu-ray Audio/Video)

I watched the first blu-ray last night. I'm thoroughly happy with the image and sound quality, and there were a lot of things I had never seen before that were great. My only quibble is related to the mastering of the disk. The animated title cards between songs look like someone's kid made them...

That isn't necessarily a bad thing. No big deal. I don't think very many people are buying this for the CD. I'd rather have different than exactly the same.

One comment on those Threatles songs... Jeff Lynne has gone on record saying he doesn't like 5.1 remastering. So I wouldn't count on the 5.1 mix on the last two songs to be very dynamic. It's a shame too, because I can't think of a group with more potential for great 5.1 than ELO.

Rubber Soul has never had the original stereo mix on CD until it was included as a supplement on the stereo Beatles box set. George Martin wasn't happy with the stereo on the original LPs, and remixed it for the first CD release. A DVD/BD combo would be a five disk set.

    The Beatles: 1 (Blu-ray Audio/Video)

The problem with this release is that a lot of people want it to be something it isn't and they get upset about it... Is the reverb going to be in the right place? No, it's a new mix. Is this going to have a high bitrate audio only option? No, this is a disk of videos, not an audio disk. Just...

I'm sure they are completely different mixes, and I'm equally sure it's impossible to judge them without hearing them in 5.1

The reason they are remixing is probably mostly to create alternate surround and stereo mixes, but also because they probably have to conform the songs to sync up with the videos. Just dropping the song on off the CD probably won't always line up. Likewise, there are probably formatting issues...

The Love album will give you an idea of what can be done with the earlier Beatles songs. It isn't going to sound much like the original mixes, but it will sound good. One thing I noticed on the Love album is that they used a verse on one of the White Album songs that isn't on the record. I...

    The Beatles: 1 (Blu-ray Audio/Video)

The 5.1 track is DTS-HD audio. And this is a disk of films, not a Blu-Ray audio disk. The advantage of the deluxe version is that it has a second blu-ray with more videos, not just the ones that were on the original 1 CD. The CD consists of the stereo remixes done specifically for this release...

    The Beatles: 1 (Blu-ray Audio/Video)

It looks to me like all of the songs on the 1 disk are both video and stereo/5.1. It appears that most of the songs on the second disk are stereo/5.1 as well. I don't think there is an audio only option, but you can just turn off your TV
