Nice. Hey, did you buy the Toshiba? 1997 was about the time when I bought my 1st DVD player for that price but, if memory serves, those players had no DTS....so off to the market, again. Than came DVD-ROM, and don't forget progressive scan players than upconverting players....I tried 'em all and...

I miss it!!! I miss the price cuts. I miss the BOGO sales. I miss the competitive dynamic spirit when two huge CE manufacturers were out doing themselves competing for our dollar. I miss the title announcements, even from Fox. I just miss it.

David, Thanks for your seating suggestion but our FR layout is such that to sit 7 feet from the screen would put our couch in the middle of the room...totally unacceptable. However, I do know what your talking about as I sit about the same distance from the screen in my HT room and that screen...

Personally, I don't think the delivery system is all that important as this inevitably changes over time. Economy and content are more important for me.

I don't think Blu-ray will ever have any appeal for the casual CE consumer the way SD DVD has. The MAGIC of SD DVD is that for just a few dollars you can buy an upconverting SD DVD player and achieve near HD quality on that new 1080P HDTV without having to replace that library of SD DVD titles...

Nothing and no one is ever "future proof." But, not to worry. If HDM is a success two or three years down the road you'll probably upgrade anyway to a player that costs a lot less and may have twice the features. If HDM is a bust, I doubt if you'll be spending much money anyway on the format and...

I understand and agree with some of what your saying. For those people that demand the very best in terms of PQ/AQ I think there will always be hardware/software manufacturers willing to provide what you and other video/audiophiles are willing to pay a premium for. Decades ago, the Laserdisc...

Very true, IT can be a very expensive hobby especially if you intend on utilizing all the advantages PQ/AQ wise, that HDM has to offer. You and some others in this forum are easily willing to spend that kind of money just as Laserdisc fans were willing to spend several decades ago. Will the...

If McDonalds lowered their hamburgers to 5 cents would you simply buy it because it's a good deal or worry that said hamburger must be an inferior product and the price McDonald's is charging is unsustainable?

Ohhhhh....I totally agree and quite frankly is the only reason I held onto my LD player and certain Laserdiscs. And the "bottom line" is that there is a bottom line on what I consider reasonable expenditures on HT equipment.....which loosly translates to what my SO is also willing to spend.;)

And this is why the PS3 was never a consideration for me along with noise issues and why I bought the Sammy 1400. I never could understand the PS3's popularity with "movie only" buyers as I would think getting lossless audio without having to pay for an expensive receiver would be a huge...

Exactly. Lets not forget that despite the studios concerns about reduction in their revenue from SD DVD sales, SD DVD still remains a huge cash cow for them and something they can always fall back on for years to come. What a huge advantage for them and really puts the studios in absolute...

Had to have been a defective player. The A2 I bought in June '07 has never had a firmware update as I use it mostly as a upconverted player in the FR and it gets a lot of use. I did run a couple of HD-DVD titles through it with no problem.
