I do the full treatment like you did in the early Spring (right before we have our first major cookout at Easter), then again after Labor Day weekend which is our last major cookout of the summer. Other than that, just brushing and oiling the grates and emptying the pan underneath.
Congrats! Here's wishing a lifetime of good grilling to your son!
As an aside, I'm so glad I got my E-330 back in 2015 (and hoping it will last a LONG TIME). I hate the open bottom design of the new Weber's, really makes them look cheap IMO. My 2015 model still looks new, no rust, and it's used...
I would still go with a Weber.....even if they are lesser quality today, they're still way better quality than 99% of the grills on the market. I've had the Genesis for 4 years now, best grill I've ever had, shows little to no sign of even coming close to wearing out. The Genesis is probably too...
+1. I even smoked peaches (peeled, cut in half, cut side face down first on the grill, turn once after about a few minutes). Fruit (peaches, pineapple, etc) cook pretty quickly on the grill, so you have to make sure the smoke is going pretty good before you put them on. But it gives them a depth...
Mike,
I do pre-heat to a very high temp to get the chips going (and to get a good sear on meat), then go low right before I put the food on. I think this allows the smoke to really get going, plus I can monitor the "done-ness" of the food easier.
As for chips, my in-laws bought me a big...
Mike, I use my smoker box all the time. I had one like yours but bought this one last year:

It fits right between the burners on my Genesis.
As for tips, I...
Mike, the same thing happened with mine. I actually ran it through the washer (on gentle cycle, cold water), with a heavy dose of fabric softener. Air dry. Seemed to work with mine. Plus it smelled really nice :)
Chicken breast is my toughest hurdle too. I've started to get a good sear on both sides, then move to upper grid and let them cook slowly til juice are clear. Especially helps when grilling other things that don't take as long.
Agree. The more I grill the less I use my thermometer. Burger, pork chops, steak, I can pretty much nail just by sight and a touch with the spatula/tongs. Chicken is pretty much the only thing I use the thermometer on anymore, for obvious reasons.
Did annual Easter cookout.....4 racks of baby back ribs rubbed overnight then basted in bourbon/chipotle sauce, 12 chicken breasts marinated in citrus marinade, plus pasta salad W/ bacon, beans, deviled eggs, corn casserole, and "hummingbird" cake for dessert. And plenty of margaritas! And a...
Same as Mike, I try to cover mine once it has cooled down after use. I did have a Weber rep tell me that when I forget to cover it and it rains, to dry it off completely before covering to prevent rust.
I have the E-330 in black, best grill I've ever owned, should last me for a decade (or more). $799 assembled from a local hearth/patio store here in Boiling Springs, SC. It gets my vote.
I'll second the praise on the v-shaped smoker box. I got one last spring and have used it religiously since. Fits perfectly on my Genesis. For chips, I also recommend these as well...

You indeed will be thrilled. Had my E-330 since November and it is just great. I had always owned Char-Broil grills (about 4-5 over the past 30 years) but the "feel" of the Weber is so much more solid. I had to adjust somewhat to cooking on the Weber as it heats up quicker and hotter than my old...
Soak the chips in water for about 30 minutes before grilling. Wet chips will smoke better vs just burning up. Put the smoker w/ chips on grill during preheating so you get smoke from start to finish.
I use my smoker all the time on my E-330. I always move my meat to upper rack directly over...
Yes. My father-in-law (who bought this one for me) said you have to amortize it...a $299 grill that last 4-5 years is actually more expensive than a $799 grill that lasts 10+ years. With the Weber warranty on burners, etc, I think I'll get my moneys worth out of this one.I'd already replaced the...
Got my E-330 today...cooked some NY Strips and grilled potatoes. Heated up so much faster than the old Charbroil and got some great grill marks on the steaks. I'm already in love :)
I will. We are big-time grillers and cookout people. I grill 3-5 times a week year round and we have major cookouts every Saturday from April til it gets too cold (which in SC can be December). I can't wait!
Just got this text from my father-in-law.....
"Your early Christmas present is bought and paid for, and is being assembled for pick-up Saturday! Wanted to get it for you before I retire at year-end and didn't want you to have to wait to use it on Christmas Day....Cheers"
The "early Christmas...
Yeah, most states in the South have "ABC" (Alcoholic Beverage Control) stores which are the only ones allowed to sell hard liquor. And most can only sell during limited hours (10am-7pm here in SC, Mon-Sat, no Sunday sales). When I was growing up in NC, no alcohol could be sold on Sunday and only...
We actually have a Trader Joes in my area of Upstate SC (Greenville/Spartanburg), and only state-ABC stores can sell "hard" liquor. The Trader Joes here only sells beer and wine.
Yes, we love Costco meats. We use their baby back ribs all summer long, and the racks are much larger than you get at a supermarket.I'd also recommend their pork tenderloins. We use them for slow-cooked pork roast and for pulled pork BBQ as well.
