Thanks, North by Northwest is pretty terrific but I already had three Hitchcock films from that period in the list so I went elsewhere. (Perusing the list - Kubrick topped it at five titles, Kurosawa had four titles, and Hitchcock and Wilder had three.)

In the spirit of the thread, I put together a list of 100 of the films I consider the greatest of all time (at least today.) Disclaimers as follows:
- My exposure to European cinema is fairly limited, so this is mostly an American list.
- I've left some of my 'favorites' off of this list...
Well, there is (sort of) an optimistic way to look at films like Requiem For A Dream and Leaving Las Vegas...

Some thoughts...
Kubrick has three slots in the list. I would have replaced The Shining with A Clockwork Orange which I think is the superior film and probably ranked it a bit higher in the list of 100 films. For me, ACO is a brilliant film. One of the most interesting aspects of the film is...
While I think there is a lot to like about High Noon, particularly the morality of the lead; the idea that the entire town would abandon the marshal always felt a bit contrived to me. We are talking about rugged folks living in the West who settled that land; not some glorified city slickers...
Once again, you make a fair point, but folks who prefer Indiana Jones or Marvel are going to have a lot more entertainment options available to them due to those films' propensity for making money. And as long as those types of films produce at the box office, all of the critical opinions in...

As Thomas posted earlier, this list tends to favor 'artistic' films, so using that criteria it is going to be exclusionary to some degree. I don't think the list is necessarily...
Some random thoughts...
I'd suggest that part of the reason that 'half the choices are from 1960 or earlier' is because earlier films, at least partly due simply to chronology are more influential and ground breaking and serve to inform latter works. This is an inherent advantage that earlier...

I am reasonably familiar with many of the titles on the 'not seen' list, but I find that a lot of my time is spent revisiting vs. experiencing new (to me) titles.
