The Eye is to quote Nemik a "recurrent band of crystallized noctilucent micro densities".
Essentially it is a formation of micro particles in space and every three years the planet Aldhani passes through this belt of particles. The interaction with Aldhani's atmosphere creates the visual...
Luthen certainly is flexible and adapts to circumstances. On that we agree. Sampled episode four and after breaking the news to Vel about Cassian joining the team he tells her "That's the good thing about renting him. He's disposable."
Now Luthen may have been using the heist as an informal...
When Luthen spoke with Vel on Ferrix, he discussed his plan to eliminate Cassian with her, not to recruit him. I am not saying that Maarva's speech was the sole factor in his reversal, but I do believe based on his facial expressions while listening to the speech and later surveying the...
I sort of feel like Luthen recognized that Cassian had evolved beyond his mercenary instincts which he saw early in the season and that he had been changed by his experiences. He (Cassian) was no longer operating in terms of self interest.
I'd also like to think that Maarva's speech made...
In terms of chronology, I believe this is how season two is planned:
Season two episode one begins one year later at approximately 3.5 BBY.
There will be four three episode segments with approximately a year between each block of three episodes.
The final three episode block will directly lead...
I tend to think that there is a synergistic effect between scripting and acting. Better scripts can get you better performances and better performances can deliver the material more effectively. This is one area where Andor simply excels. I would agree that the writing is as good as it gets...
Some of the town folks on Rix Road might disagree with that sentiment. :) That Stormtrooper on the mounted heavy weapon was dealing out some damage.
- Walter.
As has been pointed out on at least one YouTube reaction to episode 12, not only were the prisoners on Narkina 5 manufacturing components for the Death Star, they were building components that were part of the main weapon assembly. Considering the events of Rogue One, an ironic detail for us...
It wasn't about Skeen's intelligence or lack thereof. Skeen demonstrated to Cassian that he could not be trusted. If he was willing to betray Vel then he was certainly capable of betraying Cassian in the future. Was he going to kill Cassian in that moment. No, because he needed Cassian's...
S1E12 - "Rix Road"
The episode does a great job of wrapping up season one and continues the outstanding writing that informs season one.
I am already missing this show. It is going to be one long, seemingly interminable wait for season two. I will definitely revisit this series sometime...
S1E11 - "Daughter of Ferrix"
Once again the show goes a few places that I didn't expect. This episode features a very fractured narrative in terms of a lot of jumps between story lines and locations that further the narrative of season one.
Continues to be great.
- Walter.
Showing the first two episodes is an interesting strategy. Viewers of season one are aware it takes three episodes to complete the initial setup of the series. By only showing two episodes and essentially leaving viewers (sort of) hanging; will that drive subscriptions?
One of the twitter...
Forgot to mention this earlier...
The writing credits for the three arc episode ( "Narkina 5", "Nobody's Listening", & "One Way Out" ) are as follows:
Beau Willimon, Tony Gilroy, & George Lucas.
Beau Willimon was responsible for bringing House of Cards to the screen and these episodes...
S1E10 - "One Way Out"
Is Tony Gilroy an Allman Brothers fan? :)
Worth the wait, and an incredible episode with some of the best writing (and monologues) to date. Great stuff!
- Walter.
Some basic math...
1 room = 7 tables * 7 men per table = 49 men
2 shifts * 49 men = 98 men (Day / Night Shifts)
7 work rooms per level * 98 men = 686 inmates on one level.
So assuming a max number of guards on a level = 12 the inmates have a 57x numerical advantage.
We know that the elevator...
The waiting is (figuratively) killing me. :)
Thinking about the electrified floor again for a moment, I was wondering if the prisoners could fabricate makeshift slippers using their uniforms to render the floor ineffective? In the real world, cloth is actually a decent electrical insulator...
Yep. This goes all the way back to one of his inspirations for the storytelling mechanism for the original trilogy, namely Kurosawa's Hidden Fortress. ( I am sure most of the old timer SW fan's recall interviews with Lucas where he discussed this point. )
- Walter.
No offense intended, but I sort of wonder why you are still watching something for which you express so much disdain. The show is remarkably consistent through nine episodes and if you are watching in the hope that it will change then you are probably going to be disappointed, bored, and...
I think one of the hallmarks of great episodic television, at least that featuring a serial narrative, is that the episode ends leaving you wanting more. For me, Star Wars: Andor fits that description to a Tee. It seems like every episode ends, and I cry out "Ohhh!" :)
- Walter.
Good eye. I had to look up the character in The Fifth Element and confirmed that Mactilburgh and Ulaf are indeed played by the same actor - Christopher Fairbank. I didn't really see the similarity while watching the episode but in retrospect the similarities in facial structure were clear...
There has been some online speculation that (assuming Tie Fighters, or perhaps some other transportation, are being manufactured at Narkina 5) this will be the method which enables Cassian to escape the planet. So far, the series has been broken up into segments that consist of three episodes...
The question of what the prisoners were constructing crossed my mind several times. There was a You Tube clip up yesterday after the episode aired that suggested the prisoners were constructing the base for an Imperial Probe Droid.
There are three stanchions (at 120 degrees) terminating at...
A few other comments...
The stark contrast between the opulence of Mon Mothma's residence, during the party segment, and the facility at Narkina 5 really reinforced the brutal nature of the prison. That was a strong juxtaposition of scenes.
I realize that I stated the show subverts...
