I'm inclined to agree but I think it's been about a decade since they originally released it on Blu-ray so it's not impossible that they'll make a new Blu-ray using the 4K transfer and add a film critic talking about the movie and/or about Powell & Pressburger.
The Piano and Menace II Society will probably be the weakest links in terms of sales. I can't wait to get Menace but I'd guess that's the title with the least appeal to the average Criterion buyer.
With their Blu-rays having a $40 MSRP, I can't see any way that the UHDs aren't at least $50 but I guess $45 is possible.
I guess we'll know for sure on Monday when they announce the November titles.
Same here. And that was in 1990's dollars. I'd guess that's probably more than $200 today so while no one wants to pay more for movies, it's still cheaper than it was in the laserdisc days.
Yeah, I think you can make an argument for Mulholland Dr. being the best movie from this century. I'd imagine it will do quite well for Criterion or I'm hoping it does if only so they release all of their David Lynch movies on UHD.
Whatever one's thoughts on Citizen Kane, it is without a doubt going to be their best-selling UHD out of the titles they've announced. It'll be a new title for them (not counting the laserdisc from decades ago) and it's one of the most famous classic movies ever made. If they're moving into UHD...
I'm looking forward to CItizen Kane and Mulholland Dr. I get the feeling that these are going to be expensive enough that I won't be rebuying A Hard Day's Night.
