A Few Words About A few words about…™ Star Wars: A New Hope — in 4k UHD Blu-ray

I think the casual fans simply take George at his word when he talks about how he had plans. The more hardcore fans know that, at best, he had vague ideas for what he may or may not do. And I don't say that as a criticism because I think fans have put an insane amount of emphasis on "plans" and...

Is anyone in this thread saying that Empire wasn't liked in 1980 though? I know I haven't said anything close to that. No, no that was his plan the whole time. :)

A Few Words About A few words about…™ Star Wars: A New Hope — in 4k UHD Blu-ray

Without question, that was the feeling amongst any kid I knew back then too- Jabba's palace, speeder bikes, a better space battle and the good guys win. The first time I heard the idea that Empire was the better movie was in Clerks. No doubt a million people felt that before 1994 but after...

I know that Empire was very successful with audiences and critics but at the time of release, you'd be hard-pressed to find that many people saying that they liked the second movie more than the first.

It's not like the mainstream audience or kids HATED Empire but the first movie was the one that most preferred. It took at least a decade for the "Empire is the best Star Wars movie" thing to happen.

I'm not gonna go crazy arguing the point but I prefer Star Wars because it is just pure entertainment and fun. With the original, there's no cliffhanger and no plan for nine or twelve sequels or prequels. George was just making a kids movie and he pulled it off under difficult circumstances...

A Few Words About A few words about…™ Star Wars: A New Hope — in 4k UHD Blu-ray

Oh yeah, I've got a handful of old Star Wars fanzines from the time between Empire and Jedi and that movie went over like a lead balloon with a lot of people.

From the article: I guess it depends on the interpretation of what she said but I don't take any of that as her saying that it's not out of a contractual obligation. Honestly, the interviewer's bizarre phrasing ("vision of the final cut he left us with"?) sounds more to me like he was wondering...

Do you have a quote on that from someone at LFL? I don't mean that in a confrontational way but I've never seen anyone say anything that specific about the subject.

I've assumed that same thing for a decade but I don't think anyone (outside of LFL or Disney) can say it definitively.

This is the only thing I remember seeing him say about the E.T. SE after the fact: https://www.slashfilm.com/steven-spielberg-regrets-altering-et-raiders-hit-bluray-original-forms/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+slashfilm+%28%2FFilm%29

Yeah, about the only way that the idea that Universal got away with not wanting to spend the money was if Spielberg then said "Eh, I don't really care anyway." My bet is that Spielberg is that against the re-edited version that he said to not bother (especially when you consider that Universal...

I'm just guessing but I think that shows how much of a mistake Spielberg feels it was. Or maybe it's as simple as that Universal didn't want to spend the extra money on it?

I'd say that's possible but it seems to me like he's trying to 'fix' the scene when he just doesn't have the footage to do it. Now he's using a zoomed-in existing shot of Greedo and they needed some dialogue to lay over it so they add a Huttese word over it to cover the new shot.

I've probably said it before but I think the worst part of it is that the word doesn't match the rest of the dialogue since they were recorded 35 years apart.

Apparently George Lucas made those edits before selling to Disney and the 4K was the first time the public has seen them. On the plus side, I guess there won't be any more changes made now.

One of the new discs has a featurette that shows the film vault at LFL where they say they have all the negatives and dailies shot for all of the films. They don't specify that they still have the footage deleted for the SE but if Lucas apparently saved everything else (not to mention all the...

To me, the colors are much closer to the 80's and 90's home video presentations (which is what I consider to be the correct way the movie should look since I saw it a million times as a kid) than the 2011 Blu-rays.

I'm glad to not have the eye or knowledge that alot of people here have because it seems like I'm having a better time than the folks that I see constantly complaining about things I can't even remotely spot. I guess that's celebrating my own ignorance but I hate enough things in life, I don't...
