Out of the nominated movies, I thought Blackkklansman was easily the best of the lot. Apropos of nothing, one thing I think that gets overlooked with it is how funny it frequently is. Understandably, people are looking at the movie's message and talking about that but the picture manages to...
Yeah, I love Dick Miller but I'm not surprised he didn't get an acknowledgment. One person that definitely deserved to be in there was R. Lee Ermey. His role in Full Metal Jacket is incredibly memorable and he was also in probably 100 other movies throughout his career.
What's funny about that is how it ignores that 25 million people watched. What else does better than that in today's TV landscape? The Super Bowl and other big sporting events must do better but any network would kill to get 25 million viewers even if it's just once a year.
What do I know but I get the feeling that it was the movie more than the loss. That being said, I don't think he'd have been much happier if Roma had won either.
On the Blu-ray special features, Bryan Singer doesn't even get mentioned once. There was a producer, stars and a couple of the guys from Queen but to watch the disc, it's like the movie had no director.
Yeah, in his work and his life, Spike Lee speaks his mind. Even when I don't agree with him, I still like seeing a guy that tells it the way he sees it rather than giving carefully crafted statements via his publicist or getting worried about offending people. He says it and tough luck if you...
I don't think Malek did the impersonation thing like Bale did with Cheney. To me, he seemed to embody Freddie Mercury over doing a recreation of him. Not to knock Bale in any way, it's just two different ways of playing a historical figure.
The Academy 100% because they aren't standing up to ABC. ABC is just making a show to pander to people who only want to see stars and don't care about the actual art. It's gross but I understand ABC's motivation. The Academy is taking a dump on a keystone of their own art form.
Thanks to Bryan Singer, I can't see any way that Bohemian Rhapsody will win (even Rami Malek's performance can't pull the entire movie out of the years of allegations surrounding Singer). Then again, I can't believe that Black Panther is nominated so what do I know?
I have to say that my one real disappointment (though not a surprise) is that Sgt. Stubby: An American Hero didn't get a nom for Best Animated Feature. That movie NEEDED some more exposure and now it won't get it.
