I've been saying that an "Easy Rider-style shake up" was coming for almost 20 years and I've pretty much given up- franchises and the same thing over and over is here to stay.
I don't even really like this movie (Jaoquin Phoenix is excellent though) but I think Tarantino's dead-on when he's talking about how that scene plays with an audience. I wouldn't use the analogy that he did  but he's right about how you can feel it in the crowd and you aren't getting...
Thanks to the success of Joker and Parasite and the current state of the world, there will be lots of movies like that. Universal has seen that "eat the rich" movies are moneymakers so they've decided to release The Hunt. I'd say that it takes balls for Universal to stand up and release a movie...
They're overshadowed by the similarities to Scorsese's Taxi Driver. Honestly, this movie just seems like a knock off of those much better movies and it's why I wonder why the picture has gotten so much award attention.
It's the old Rod Serling (and many others) trick of hiding societal commentary in a form that is more palatable. Like all commentary, it was lost on some people who just liked seeing the Joker lash out at the people who picked on him or people who just wanted to see a movie & have no interest in...
Yeah, it's an "eat the rich" movie (and forget the beginning of the decade because alot more of them are inevitably coming in the next couple years). I can see how some incel relates to Joker to some degree but the statement being made is about the haves versus the have nots.
That's the issue to sane people but what I'm referring to are the lunatics who are basically demanding that he like them or saying that he and his movies suck because he said he doesn't like the same movies that they do.
My buddy's mother died a few months before Guardians Of The Galaxy came out and I know that movie (and other things in his life) really helped him deal with it since Chris Pratt's character goes through the same thing as a child. As I said, I don't have that connection with any of those movies...
I found it to be an ugly movie and I think it's likely to disappoint people who just want the standard comic book movie but it's worth seeing for Joaquin Phoenix's performance.
And the people criticizing the movie for glorifying or sympathizing with the Joker character are wrong in my opinion...
Some of the reactions to this from people on Twitter are priceless. How is anyone surprised that a 75 (or so) year old man who loves old movies doesn't like these CG-filled comic book movies? I'm a huge fan of the new Star Wars movies but I bet Marty doesn't like them and I wouldn't be mad or...
From what I've read, it's not the violence. It's that the lonely entitled violent psycho is presented in a somewhat sympathetic light.
And don't anyone shoot the messenger, I'm just saying what people are griping about and not that agree or disagree (until I see the movie at least). :)
Maybe I'm just used to seeing old horror movie series where continuity is not given a second thought but I'd recommend that people just go with it and hope the movie is good.
Other than here, the buzz I've seen is positive (I haven't seen the trailer so I can't comment) but I think it'll easily make $100 million. People might end up hating it but they'll go because it looks "dark and gritty".
I'm superheroed out so if it wasn't for Scorsese's involvement, I probably...
That's precisely what I like about this. It's a small enough budget that they don't have make $700 million to break even so they don't have to make something that tries to please everyone. And I'm not a big advocate for putting super heroes in an R rated movie but The Joker is probably the best...
