    Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)

To be fair, Whedon had to take pieces of an unfinished troubled movie from someone else and try to rewrite it utilizing & salvaging something out of what they already had, shoot other stuff to connect what they already had and finish the movie all in 5 or 6 (?) months. I don't know if Kubrick...

That's cornerstone Reagan impersonation. It'd be like if Futurama's Nixon's head in a jar didn't say "Arrroooooo!"

    Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)

There's alot of movies where the people involved think "The computer will make it all look real" but as good a modern CG is, they still need to know how to shoot special effects to make them look real because when they don't, CG can end up looking fake.

    Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)

I didn't say that no one had ever made three movies with the same characters, I just don't see any reason to keep making these movies when she or anyone has got a lot of other options. Nolan was smart and leveraged his success with a Batman movie to get another original movie made and alternated...

    Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)

Just me but why would she want to direct three of these things? I'm sure a paycheck for a third movie would be great but it's not like she invented the character and after two comic book movies and a Star Wars movie, she won't have trouble getting other big budget work so why not move on to...

    Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)

No, I just wanted to point out that instead of automatically knocking something, I (and, by extension, you) was trying to cite valid reasons why I felt it wouldn't work.

I'll even point out that it's easy to be the guy who just comes up with reasons why a new idea won't work and drive-ins may work well in some places but in terms of practicality, I can't see it working at the theaters around me.

    Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)

I agree that adaptation is needed for the theatrical business but yeah, the AMCs and Regal in my area simply don't have a parking lot conducive to even a makeshift drive-in. One AMC and a Regal sort of do but anyone could just sit in an adjacent lot and still see & hear the movie for free from...

    Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)

Translation of AMC President's quote: "They gave us 60% of the ticket so we're letting them set a precedent that will eventually destroy us." To be fair, AMC needs the movie so Warners has the upper hand and AMC has no real choice but to play the movie but the idea that this is somehow a good...

    Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)

I'll give you that there's a real good chance that the remaining theaters will be closed by Christmas day but if not, WB is just kicking their distribution partners when they're already down.

    Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)

I agree that the people who won't go aren't going to see this either but I do think this situation is a different thing because they're offering a movie in home and I think that will definitely eat away at the already small theatrical audience. I'm worried about there being a place to play...

    Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)

When did that happen? Seriously, I hadn't heard that and the AMCs in my area are still open.

    Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)

I suppose to be fair, it's possible that the pandemic will be so bad in 6 weeks that most theaters will be closed. If not, I hope AMC refuses to play the movie but I'm sure that won't happen.

    Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)

Warners is putting this on HBO MAX on Christmas Day and no one will go there, but it will also be in theaters that day. What a fucking shortsighted betrayal of theaters by Warners. https://deadline.com/2020/11/wonder-woman-1984-going-in-theaters-hbo-max-on-christmas-day-1234618288/

Even though it's a smaller Marvel movie, Black Widow is still a Marvel movie so I think It will get a theatrical release barring a catastrophe with theaters.

    Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)

Yeah. If WW goes streaming, I think all of the theater chains will have to have all closed, gone bankrupt and no studios or companies have plans to buy them. Like you said, it's too much of a tentpole to be relegated to streaming. Not too many movies can say that though.

    Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)

I agree Wonder Woman'll probably be moved from Christmas but I don't think they'll move to streaming. Never say never though.

    Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)

I'd definitely spend $30 for a Star Wars or Pixar movie. There's the occasional movie from guys like David Fincher or Quentin Tarantino where I'd pay to see it immediately too but that'd about it for me. One thing is for sure, I wouldn't be doing it on a regular basis and I probably saw an...

So no surprise, she confirms the theatrical release but I don't think she's confirming a simultaneous streaming release.

    Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)

Speaking from a business perspective, that actually seems like a mistake to me. Candyman isn't going to be a major hit whenever it opens but by being not only the sole studio horror movie but nearly the only movie in the month of October, I think Universal would have done quite well.
  23. TravisR

    Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)

Yeah but WW and Dune are both going for the same basic crowds and it is rare to see two of the same pictures opening that close to each other. Also, maybe it's happened but when was the last time that one studio released two of their own big budget movies within a week of other? I don't think...

I'm not 100% clear on who controls James Bond but if Sony does, it doesn't seem like No Time To Die will be coming out then.

    Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)

The only surprise is that the delay is only a month or two. Seriously though, this is a big blow to the theaters. Even the most optimistic person doesn't think that Tenet is going to keep playing until Black Widow opens. If it opens.

    Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)

From what I've read, they have more time between screenings for more thorough cleanings of the theaters so that may cut into the number of times they play the movie too. At least Avengers had like 47 characters to deal with, WW and Bond have about 3.

    Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)

Nice to see them exercise some restraint and keep the run time reasonable.
  28. TravisR

    Wonder Woman 1984 (2020)

I think Warners knows that moving WW to October is alot more realistic and Tenet is still in July simply to keep Nolan and the theater chains happy until they have to give them the bad news that it's going to have move again. One thing's for sure, you can bet that WB isn't printing posters with...
