Thanks to audience fragmentation, no one needs to watch the actual broadcast so it's no surprise that it's the lowest rated show ever. The ratings will be even lower next year and lower the year after that.
I looked it up and he was added last minute to last year's segment.
The most outrageous In Memoriam omission is Tobe Hooper. The guy directed The Texas Chain Saw Massacre which is a masterpiece and in the Museum Of Modern Art & made a Sight & Sound Top 250 list but I guess George Romero (who is...
I agree but I think if they did that, the reality would be that about once every decade an animated movie would manage to get a BP nomination so at least with the animated category, they get some recognition.
There's a couple of jokes about Sam Rockwell's character beating up black people but anyone who thinks that's making light of racism or endorsing it either only saw those scenes or is willfully ignoring alot of other parts in the movie.
As a lifelong horror fan, that prejudice is why I'd be happy to see The Shape Of Water or especially Get Out win. I'm not expecting it but I'll happy if it happens.
I don't expect Williams to win but he's the one person I'm actively rooting for. I know it's the favorite but I don't remember a note from The Shape Of Water's score. I'm sure it's quality work (Desplat does nice stuff) but it's the only nominated score that I remember none of. If Williams/The...
I think the nominees with any realistic chance are all good so unless there is a major upset, this is probably the first year where I'm not going to be concerned about who/what does or doesn't win. Of course, I have favorites- I'd vote for Three Billboards but it's not like I'll be mad if an...
Even Gary Oldman? I'm not the biggest fan of the movie (if it wasn't for Oldman's performance, I don't think it would have gotten a theatrical release) but he's really good and easily in the top half of the nominees.
Other than Interstellar, I think I'd say that about all of Nolan's movies. Not that that's a knock but it's just that most of his movies don't engage me on an emotional level.
I think even if you were posting in the Lady Bird thread, there'd be a big difference between you simply saying that you didn't like it or responding to posts about that and continuing to rag on it just to belabor your point. You've been perfectly reasonable and it's all part of having a...
Love it or hate it, my point was more that there's a lot that's relatable in the movie. Whether it was from a kid's POV or a parent's POV, you couldn't find anything relatable in it?
Perhaps :) but I will say that I literally do not remember being that flat out excited while watching a scene in a movie ever. Obviously, my mileage and insane fandom is vastly different than other folks.
I'd go with PTA too but I'll be happy whichever person wins because I don't think there's any weak links in the category. Of course, I have favorites in all the categories but it seems like there's alot less "Why the hell is that nominated?!" nominees this year.
It's funny but I think virtually everyone- even people who were the belles of the ball at their high school or had a great relationship with a parent or who never ached to get out of their home town- can relate to it. It's one of the really great things about the picture in my mind.
Based on the rapturous word of mouth, I can see how someone would think it was overrated. I loved Lady Bird but if I heard correctly, it is one of the highest rated movies ever on Rotten Tomatoes and I don't know that it's one of the best movies ever made.
Yeah, Hollywood will pat itself on the back for nominating her and Jordan Peele but that's as far as it will actually go.
I have no clue what the odds are but I think Guillermo del Toro seems to be on an awards roll and Christopher Nolan has a good chance at winning due to Dunkirk and his body...
It seems like Nolan wanted to do everything in Dunkirk as much practically as humanly possible so having a couple hundred thousand extras or a thousand boats just isn't a possibility.
I'm not particularly knowledgeable about the real event but did all those men escape in those 1,000 boats all...
From a point of self preservation, it's a smart move because if he steers clear of all this, the accusations against him won't really be brought up again. If he goes or makes a big deal about not going, he's turning a very big and potentially very bad spotlight on himself.
I see your point because in a broad sense, they're similar but I think the different locations, time periods and characters makes each of them its own unique thing.
I thought Williams work for The Post was typically great but it was a lot more subtle & used very sparingly. Whereas The Last Jedi was (like most SW movies) wall to wall music & it expanded his great work on the other seven Star Wars movies so I think the prominence of the music and his building...
