It’s a Marvel film. They are allowed to borrow Spider-Man for a limited run of movies. Oh never mind I thought you asked about infinity War. You may be right but I think Marvel was the actual show runner for the movie.

Venom is symbiotic to/with Spider-man. How does this movie happen without the character explanation of why it resembles Spider-Man.

It may end up being good but it makes little sense to me to have a Venom and no SM. They are hand in hand to me especially if this is at the beginning of the Venom story. The original premise is that both Brock and the symbiote hate Peter Parker. Oh well.
