The Monkees TV Series & 33⅓ Revolutions per Monkee + "Head" (1968) movie, coming to Blu

WOW, that was kind of weird, and ultimately depressing! 😕

The Monkees TV Series & 33⅓ Revolutions per Monkee + "Head" (1968) movie, coming to Blu

I like the TV Theme, but I get your meaning. There are many great songs in the Monkees' canon. CHEERS! :)

Micky's voice definitely fits the song better than Mike's would have. I too, love Peter's harpsichord playing on that. CHEERS! :)

The Monkees TV Series & 33⅓ Revolutions per Monkee + "Head" (1968) movie, coming to Blu

Micky's singing was, and is fantastic!! He's no slouch as a drummer, either! Alternate versions are great to have available in large part as a means to be able to hear the building blocks under construction that ultimate led to the classics we and so many others love! CHEERS! :)

The Monkees TV Series & 33⅓ Revolutions per Monkee + "Head" (1968) movie, coming to Blu

I generally like hearing alternate takes of classic songs, and so long as the originals remain available, I have no real issue, either way. You do also make a good point about it being a previous not perfected vocal take by Micky. Aside from that, we'll just have to agree to disagree. CHEERS! :)

The Monkees TV Series & 33⅓ Revolutions per Monkee + "Head" (1968) movie, coming to Blu

Very flat and unappealing. I'll take the original released version EVERY TIME!!!! CHEERS! :)

The second half of this post from the fall of 2015 hasn't aged well, at all!! 🙃

Don't know how affordable it would really be if Warner Archive issued it, though. Less $$ than Shout! Factory (Though this would be right up their alley!), I suppose? I'm thinking Rhino is more likely, no? CHEERS! :)

The Monkees TV Series & 33⅓ Revolutions per Monkee + "Head" (1968) movie, coming to Blu

I grew up seeing the S From Hell logo, and it never scared me at all. I mean, it was just a logo, after all! Until a few years ago when I saw fellow HTF members make reference to it, I had no idea it was even known as the S From Hell! When I sussed out which logo was being referenced, my...

I feel your pain, Vincent! Wish I could have afforded this set!

The Monkees TV Series & 33⅓ Revolutions per Monkee + "Head" (1968) movie, coming to Blu

As the only ever Billboard #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart to clock in at under 100 seconds, "Stay" absolutely doesn't "overstay" its welcome! “I’m Henry VIII, I Am” is noteworthy for being much longer as performed by the great Herman's Hermits lead singer Peter Noone at his concerts! I would...

The Monkees TV Series & 33⅓ Revolutions per Monkee + "Head" (1968) movie, coming to Blu

As a near lifelong Beatles aficionado, that was a rather silly mistake, on my part! At over 7 minutes, I'd suspect that "Hey Jude" A side must have been just about stretched to the limit, and susceptible to skipping! CHEERS! :)

The Monkees TV Series & 33⅓ Revolutions per Monkee + "Head" (1968) movie, coming to Blu

"You've Lost that Lovin' Feeling" (1964) actually clocked in at around 3:50, not 4:37. I suspect to make the side appear shorter, Phil Spector simply had the "50" numerals deliberately reversed to "05," but that part IS speculation. The much more extensive "Hey Jude" and "American Pie" length...

Totally agree! Davy Jones and Peter Noone were also both native Manchester lads! :) CHEERS! :)

The Monkees TV Series & 33⅓ Revolutions per Monkee + "Head" (1968) movie, coming to Blu

For me, as I get older, the extras for the most part, are less of a draw. As nice as it would be to have the alternate soundtracks for the 1966-67 summer reruns and the early '70s Saturday morning soundtracks as additional options, just having the originals are fine with me. I've also heard that...

The Monkees TV Series & 33⅓ Revolutions per Monkee + "Head" (1968) movie, coming to Blu

Insomuch as it sucks THE MONKEES COMPLETE SERIES Limited Edition Blu-ray set is way way out of my price range, I'm also really grateful to have the DVDs seeing how insanely overpriced they are now! CHEERS! :)

The Monkees TV Series & 33⅓ Revolutions per Monkee + "Head" (1968) movie, coming to Blu

I can see your dilemma. Besides the obvious cost factor, it also comes down to what series you're a bigger fan of, and also whether it's worth taking another chance of there being a pared down lower cost unlimited edition MONKEES Series Blu-ray set down the road, after the limited edition was...

The Monkees TV Series & 33⅓ Revolutions per Monkee + "Head" (1968) movie, coming to Blu

In all seriousness, I didn't find the viewing of "33 1/3" all that terrible. It is a rather quirky curio, to be sure! It has been a couple of years since my last viewing of the special, and hearing the commentary tracks. As I recall, Micky D's was fun (If not a bit over the top, at times!)...

The Monkees TV Series & 33⅓ Revolutions per Monkee + "Head" (1968) movie, coming to Blu

"Listen To The Band" disintegrates into a cacophonical mess after the first 3 minutes, which I agree was great! CHEERS! :)

The Monkees TV Series & 33⅓ Revolutions per Monkee + "Head" (1968) movie, coming to Blu

"Whole Lotta Shakin Goin' On" is certainly a bright spot of "33 1/3 Revolutions Per Monkee," and it does appear on the version that is included on my copy of THE MONKEES - Season 2 (2011 Edition) DVD set extras. This version of "33 1/3" also includes two separate commentary tracks (By Micky...

The Monkees TV Series & 33⅓ Revolutions per Monkee + "Head" (1968) movie, coming to Blu

Sadly, still a hard pass for me, but I'm glad the purchase of this set has become a bit more realistic for some, at least for the time being. :) CHEERS! :)

The Monkees TV Series & 33⅓ Revolutions per Monkee + "Head" (1968) movie, coming to Blu

As an aside, just the other day, I noticed that THE MONKEES was airing on CHCH TV, Hamilton. I set up the PVR to record what are the final two series episodes (THE PARTRIDGE FAMILY begins airing in its 1:30PM weekday time slot, next week.). Upon briefly checking the penultimate "The Monkees Blow...

The Monkees TV Series & 33⅓ Revolutions per Monkee + "Head" (1968) movie, coming to Blu

Every episode of THE MONKEES that I've viewed recently has this, to some degree. Yet, I haven't spotted any other visual video tape anomalies, such as drop offs. Weird. On my Season 2 DVD set of THE MUNSTERS, I did notice this over scan on the MUNSTER, GO HOME! (1966) theatrical release, which...

The framing also looks a bit more open all around, especially on the right side of the image. It's a bit brighter, as well. CHEERS! :)

The Monkees TV Series & 33⅓ Revolutions per Monkee + "Head" (1968) movie, coming to Blu

I actually find the PQ on the DVDs OK, for the most part, but then I'm viewing the Episodes on a 32 Inch 720p Screen! For me, the translucent line (From over-scanning, perhaps?) on the left side of the screen, is the biggest annoyance. An example of this can be seen in the image, below. From...

The Monkees TV Series & 33⅓ Revolutions per Monkee + "Head" (1968) movie, coming to Blu

I've recently resumed viewing THE MONKEES Season 1 DVD set, having given up the ghost on there ever being a more affordable unlimited Blu-ray release in the offing! A quick check online just a few minutes ago didn't reveal anything new, other than a $999 USD price point for the limited edtion...

The Monkees TV Series & 33⅓ Revolutions per Monkee + "Head" (1968) movie, coming to Blu

Is there any word as to whether there might be a stripped down sans Bonus Disc edition coming anytime soon? That's too bad about the "Whole Lotta Shakin' Goin' On" portion of the 33 1/3 REVOLUTIONS PER MONKEE (1968) special being excised due to music rights issues, especially...

The Monkees TV Series & 33⅓ Revolutions per Monkee + "Head" (1968) movie, coming to Blu

That is definitely correct regarding THE KID FROM BROOKLYN (1946) having been based on THE MILKY WAY (1936), which I believe was indeed, based on a play. The 1936 Harold Lloyd version is generally considered to be the superior one, although many also like the1946 Danny Kaye version. I'm...
